Lennonized MIK Casino

I had to cure my curiosity.....

Today after work I went to GC' date=' and asked the sales rep if I could measure the bout on their Casino Elitist at the widest point with a pair of calipers (and these are calipers from work that are calibrated). The salesman let me do so.... It measured 3.440".... I went home and my JL REV (with same calipers) measures 3.480.... Only .040 wider... basically the thickness of a medium hard guitar pick:-s

Now depending on the tolerance call outs (which I believe is quite generous knowing Epiphone). I would dare state the necks on both the Elitist and JL REV's are made to the same spec. And to be honest they look exactly the same, with exception of the beveled edge area on the JL REV headstock and the Epiphone logo is different... Those were the only striking differences I could point out.

But I do have to say, the elitist is a *****in guitar... I played it for about 15 minutes while I was at GC, but it's pricey ($1500).[/quote']

How interesting! I didn't use calipers, just a ruler...but, My '66 Casino is 3 1/2" across (tip to tip) of the upper widest part on the headstock, and 2 3/4" at the bottom widest part of the headstock.

My Riviera (Korean) is 3 1/4" at the widest portion on the headstock, and also 2 3/4" at the bottom widest part.

The logo is, at the highest point (top of the "h") is 1 3/16" from the upper edge (straight up from it), of the headstock,

on the '66. On the Korean...that same top of the "h" is only 11/16," from the top of the headstock..straight up.

So, you can tell, that the logo is much further down, on the headstock, on the Vintage '66, than the more current

versions. But, I know they vary, some...even now. I was sure the "Lennon" one, was more like my Vintage

version, but...obviously, I was mistaken. It sure looks a lot wider, in most of the photo's I've seen, of John's

actual guitar...but, it's been reported, that Gibson experts, examined and took all the measurements, of John's guitar at Yoko's apartment, years ago...so, your's must be accurate...at least +/- normal tolerances/allowances for actual construction.

And, being a photographer, I know that lens distortion (especially in the case of wide angle lenses), can/does

make things appear larger, the closer they are to the lens. So, with that in mind, it may account of Some of

the differences, photo vs. reality. But, even shots taken reasonably straight on, the headstock always looked

more like the one on my '66. LOL...even the shot in my Avatar, the headstock seems wider,

than you're describing. OH WELL... ;>)

Sorry, for the confusion. But, it was unintentional...and based on not only MY guitar, but other's of that era,

that I have seen..some of which were even (a bit) wider, than mine. LOL! I neve actually was in a position

to put an Elitist headstock next to a "Lennon" one...so, I was going by memory...should have known better,

especially, with MY memory...anymore. ;>b

Thanks, Duane...for your trouble, and information. Good to know!

Frenchie...I'd be interested in a couple of those 2 hole TRC's myself. (want to keep them around in case

my original get's "lifted?") Do you/could you ever make any for the Riviera (White ones' date=' that is)? Anyway...

keep me in mind. Also, do you use the period correct elongated "E"? (Just curious)

+1 Frenchie Oui', Oui'.

It's weird, at the bottom widest point my JL measures 2.835":-s ......... The actual Lennon looks bigger and longer than the Re-issue JL Revs........ But the eyes do play tricks....

I just grabbed a ruler and it measures 3.5" at its widest, and 2.75" at the low widest..... So your measurement is comparable to using a ruler

Yeah, and my Riviera isn't an "Elitist" either...so, it's obviously different still (at the top bout) than either the "Lennon"

ones, or the Elitist Casino's. So, it sounds like the Elitist AND the Lennon ones ARE like the old (my old, anyway) Vintage

Casino / Rivieara headstocks. COOL! I guess where I was confused...(or more so, than "normally"...LOL!) was in thinking

the "Elitist" were more like the current Korean headstocks. NOW, I'm wondering if the newer "Quingdao" versions are

like the Vintage/Lennon/Elitist headstocks, or...like the Korean, or different than ALL?! ;>b

Be interesting to see, if anyone here, has a current "Chinese" Casino, and what the "ruler" measurements are, on it...

since not everyone will have access to calipers, etc.

Anyone???

Here's a couple of pictures of the head stock on my JL REV I took in my office' date=' and it looks utterly out of proportion (huge)..

In the pictures it looks like a 5'5" dude with a size 15 shoe:-s

LOL...yeah even moderately wide angle lenses can do that...when used

in that fashion. Actually, the full length photo doesn't look that distorted...nice guitar!!

I'm envious...

Well, this has been interesting, fun, and informative!

Thanks, Duane...for your trouble, and curiosity.

The bottom picture, the headstock looks almost half the length of the neck where the neck joins the body....:) ... And when my daughter is strumming on the darn thing, it looks like a cricket paddle LOL!!!

Though I haven't measured my pals JL Rev, he commented that my headstock looked weirdly large compared to his JL Rev...... who friggin knows
