Lord Summerisle
Ok a bit off topic here..but which is better the Gator or the SKB 335 hardshell for this casino? It really got me thinking and i'd really like to feel safe when bringing this home on a transpacific flight back to Manila.. thanks guys! I have no experience with SKB cases' date=' but I have used Gators in the past and still use them for my acoustics, and I think they are superb! Great value for money, too. Carry it on and ask the flight attendant to put it in their closet. They usually will if there is no overhead space available. I'm afraid you can't make those kind of assumptions anymore. Maybe if you have something like a Strat in a skinny little gigbag or something. But I turned up with my acoustic one day - and the man from Continental Airlines he say "NO!" Luckily, they lee me gate-check it, so it wasn't the end of the world. On a later flight with a different airline, the airline employee at the check-in desk insisted that I check my guitar. Happily the guitar survived (although the case took a terrible beating). To be fair, a flight attendant did once tell me just how limited space is on modern airplanes. Boeing 777s are apparently especially culpable in this regard. They are huge planes, but the overhead bins are very short, and I guess they need the closet for the 1st class passengers' mink coats and top hats... Luis - some advice: If you are going to check your guitar, use a quality case as I noticed people were telling you at your other thread ("How to transport a guitar?"). Also - get hold of a large clear plastic bag which will accommodate the whole guitar case. This will somewhat protect your new case from dirt and scratches as it passes along the luggage conveyor-belts at the airport. At one time they used to give you one of these at check-in (if you asked), but these days when the airlines want to charge you $5 for a soda or whatever, I'm not sure that this is still true... With a Casino (or any archtop / semi) the big fear is always damage caused by pressure applied to the top of the guitar. So please be sure to use a good case (whether an SKB, Gator, or any other suitable brand). Good luck - and enjoy your new guitar when you get it home! Johnny. EDIT: I just saw Jim's [MIDIMan's] comments about SKB cases over at the other thread, along with his comments about securing your guitar to prevent movement. Sounds like good advice to me... I've currently decided to purchase the SKB case since it's an ABS case and has TSA approved locks.. i was thinking i'd rather pay extra for a quality case other than pay for repairs :) Can't really pay for peace of mind these days. I guess i'll just sell the epi 335 case that comes free with the JLI casino :)
cookieman15061
Any checked luggage cannot be locked now so no matter what precautions you take, once it leaves your hands, a baggage handler can open it. Good luck friend. Hope it gets back safely. Here's a song to make you feel better

[/quote'] Actually, cookie ... The SKB cases come equipped with TSA approved locks, meaning you CAN lock them as TSA employees have the means to open them, inspect the comtents, and then relock them. Pretty handy! Jim

They're not SKB cases branded as Fender by any chance, are they?? Johnny.

They look really nice and if I wasn't selling my tele (to make way for a new IBJL Casino!) I'd definitely look into getting one.
