ydarg
I have an '07 Korean Sheraton II. I love it, but am beginning to crave more out of the pickups. I have scoured these forums, but perhaps someone would be able o generously answer these questions: 1) I think I want to put some P-90s into this thing. I love the single coil sound, need more bite. I've checked out several brands - any consensus on which would sound best with the anatomy of the Sheraton. (Taxman might be a goal tone-wise). 2) I understand that the electronics may as well be changed when I do the pickups. Is there a specific harness that someone makes that I could drop in (pull through). I have limited time and would hate to end up with pots that are too long, too big, etc.) 3) I was looking at a graphite nut and saddles. Is this an upgrade that I should do sooner, or perhaps later. I do seem to break strings something horrible on this thing. Thanks much, Guitar-modding novice.
brianh
Hey ydarg, welcome to the forum and congrats on the Sheri. The first question is what amp are you using? Assuming it's something good, a Gibson P94T/R pair would drop right into yer Sherri and they are fab-u-lous. High output, nice 'n gritty without sounding harsh, and they look great too. A little pricey though: http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibson-P94R-Humbucker-Sized-P90-Neck-Pickup?sku=306914 Seymour Duncan makes a similar PUP called the Phat Cat: http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/electric/specialized/progressive/sph901_phat_cat/ There's also P-Rails which can be wired to allow for coil splitting for a P90 or humbucker sound: http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/electric/humbucker/progressive/prails_shpr1/ Then there's the highly-regarded Lollar P90: http://www.lollarguitars.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=LGP&Product_Code=265&Category_Code=humbucker-pickups And lastly, if money IS an object, GFS Mean 90s: http://store.guitarfetish.com/me90gocaalp9.html As for the wiring, if you want a pre-wired harness, Mojo is the place to go: They also sell PUPs and most other upgrade parts including bone, graphite and corian nuts and saddles. Joe Samick on this forum has done some major upgrades on his 2 Sherries including the Mojo assembly. I'm sure he will weigh in here....

Hi Ydarg Brianh was right I used a mojotone harness/assembly in my Joe Pass David at mojo gives great service. Another source is BCS http://bcsguitars.com/?page_id=512 I have 2 Sheratons i am currently in the process of modding I will start with my 1987 and see how that goes and then my 1989 both are MIK Samicks. I went another route for the harnesses for my Sherri's I ordered a set of handwound pups and the guy offered to also make my harnesses at a good price into the deal. here are the pups and one of the harnesses. My pup choices were PAF clones for one and minis in the other. Expecting delivery in about 2 weeks Good look with your mods
ydarg
Excellent. Thanks for the replies (so far). It turns out my brother knows a top-tier guitar tech in San Francisco and I might be able to get a break on installation costs - I really shouldn't be soldering anything. Has anyone else had issues with strings breaking on the Sheratons? Oh, also: should I be looking for short-shaft or long-shaft pots?
lpdeluxe
Before you order the Mojo assembly, measure the f-hole openings on your Sheraton. The Mojo uses 1" diameter pots, and many Sheraton IIs have .75" openings. That was the case with mine, so I made up my own cardboard template and soldered everything up with mini pots from Stewart-McDonald.

Guest
Excellent tip and advice! Is right Strum..... but in the Mojotone video David makes that very clear. Of course it is easier for E-by-G Sheraton owners. I am going to use the access in the bridge route to put 4 full size pull/push pots in my E-by-G.......as you would say Strum being an ex seaman "Plain Sailing".
