If it is of any use to you Pete, I have dealt with these people before and would suggest that if anything, they slightly over emphasize any issues. Not a bad thing in today's "interesting" climate.[biggrin]

Thanks for that Rob.

As it happens, I kinda talked myself out of paying any more than half retail (while I was busy repainting the lounge - well you've got to do something when it's cr4ppy weather and you can't go golfin'), anyway I just checked it out and some schmuck is already bidding more than 75% with 30 mins still to go!

Sheee![biggrin]

I think I'll head into the city tomorrow and see if I can't talk some saleman into giving me a nice discount.

Times are hard, right?

A little profit is better than no profit.

you'll nee3d to go to guitar guitar ' date=' they are the epiphone stockist [biggrin][/quote']

That's quite a coincidence Alan - I've just been looking at their web site!

Here's what I found - http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/electric_guitars_detail.asp?stock=04042010471618

Here's my question - is this the same as a SG400 cherry, apart from the finish?

I tried comparing both guitars at the site, but I can't see any difference, so I'm thinking to myself (better than talking to myself...) is this the SG version of the LP 'Studio'?

If so, unless a really good used LP Standard, or SG400 cherry presents itself in the next week, I'll be nipping in to Guitar Guitar with a bunch of readies in my sweaty mitt.

I'll go in tomorrow to try a few out [biggrin]

See what you're doing to me?

The budget (which started at £150) is creeping up and up!

Good job the missus doesn't read my private messages.

Oh! Hello Elin [biggrin]

I just bought the faded cherry G-400 and I like it. I think the only thing I heard was different was slim-taper neck on the shiny G-400 and I didn't see that listed for the faded. Faded neck is fat and round like a baseball bat. I like it, but just thought I'd mention they may be different.

did you see this one ' date=' i know it's not cherry coloured but a good price http://edinburgh.gumtree.com/edinburgh/73/56172273.html[/quote']

Yep, saw that one Alan, and was interested enough to consider making the epic journey all the way to Dalkeith.

However, I've been in to GuitarGuitar this morning and tried out;

Vintage worn cherry SG400;

Cherry SG400;

Les Paul Standard.

I liked the SG's straight away, but was slightly put off by the flattish neck. It wouldn't have put me off buying either one mind you, but it was just a teeny little niggle.

Tried out the LP Standard and wow! that was it! loved it straight away - even although the set-up was all screwy - I recognized the potential.

Sadly, couldn't get the buggers to shift on the price (it was the last Standard in the shop), so I did my famous 'walking out towards the door' technique, waiting to be called back in for the "special one-off, don't tell anyone" price.

Well, either I've gone Mutt & Jeff, or they couldn't be arsed, but I had to keep on walking. [biggrin]

Their price was £279 - which is actually pretty good - but way outside my budget at the moment.

There's this one in Glasgow

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130379616825&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

which seems kosher. It's a 1998 Korean built Standard with hard-case. I'm going to ask the seller if I can try it out, and if it's any good I'll try to wave some cash under his nose to see if he'll do the deal there & then.

Pete.
