Sound post?

Hello, all. I'm new to the forum and found you guys because I recently purchased a Casino (sold my Gibson MelodyMaker to be able to afford it). One of the great things about the internet is the ability to research just about anything, in detail. This is what I do before I purchase a guitar or start with any modding. Yes, I'm one of those, just can't leave well enough alone. None of my guitars are "stock". So when I got the Casino, the research began.

I'll get into all of the mods that I just did/had done, in another post. But I'm curious about something that I discovered on this particular Casino. I'd been reading about the preceived feedback problem that some feel this guitar has (feedback? I have no problem getting feedback). Besides the obvious solution of changing your proximity to your amp, adding a sound post was the fix that most seemed to think was the solution. Since I was changing my pickups, it would be the perfect opportunity to take a look at what that would involve. So while at my luthier's, we opened her up and there was already one in there! A balsa post installed with the same glue that appeared elsewhere inside, so it must have been factory installed. In all of my "research", I have never seen the mention of a stock sound post in a Casino. Is this common? Was it installed at the factory ('01 Peerless)? Or do I just need to be a little more diligent in my research? Thanks, in advance, for any "feedback" on this.

Welcome to the forum!

I don't own a Casino and I've never worked on one, which is good come to think of it,

so I can't tell you about the sound post.

I will repeat a common theme here though. WE WANT PICS!!

All new or new to owner guitars need pics. [biggrin]

Hmmmm. OK. So is this a matter of semantics? Or is there a difference? If so, what is the difference, location? The luthier I had work on this had suggested a "sound post" before we even opened it up. And a balsa one at that. He'd done some research with Howard Roberts for hollow bodies about 20 years ago and they concluded that balsa was the best (seems counter-intuitive, like more mass would be better) and where it was on the Casino was close to where he would have put it. Anyway, saved me some money. I'll have to figure out what else I can do now that I don't have to spend it on one. Pictures will go up later this weekend. Right now, I'm enjoying just playing it. Thanks.
