jkim0616
Hello all, This is my first post and I need some help from the experts. I just bought a used Epiphone LP Studio and the treble/rhythm switch does not stay in one position. I am guessing that I need to replace this switch. Where can I get a new switch and is it a hard fix? the repair shop is asking for about 40 bucks for the part and labor. is it worth it to just get it fixed there or is it easy enough to fix it at home? Do you mean it keeps springing back to the middle position??? If so, unscrew the plastic cap and try it. Sometimes the bottom of plastic cap gets in the way and prevents the switch from engaging all the way. If that's the problem, just sand the bottom of the cap a little. Vic Flick
The switch is almost like a joystick.. Well' date=' that's not good... You can buy a switch for less than $20. It's a fairly straight forward repair if you've had some soldering experience. You should be able to buy one at Guitar Center or Sam Ash if you have one near you, most good local shops should stock them as well. If not, try here. brad1
That doesn't sound good. If you want to replace it, I recommend a Switchcraft. Here's a link ---> http://www.allparts.com/Short-Toggle-Switch-p/ep-4066-000.htm If you are fairly competent with soldering, than it is not a difficult job. I am not. So I took mine in. I think $40 is a reasonable amount to pay however. The part, with shipping is going to be around $25.
animalfarm
Jerrymac's link to Guitarfetish, and Brad's link to Allparts are good sources. I use Guitarfetish a LOT, have bought MANY parts and pups thru them. http://store.guitarfetish.com/usastlespato.html After you obtain a New Switch, DO NOT throw the old one away! Toss it in the parts bin for Future parts/repair parts use! The switch in the following pic is actually parts from two other broken switches. The solder tabs for the Bridge and Neck pups are broken off at this point, but I still have a couple of sealed used 3-ways and many mini-pots that I could "snatch" a couple of tabs off of, and solder on for an EMERGENCY repair if needed. PART iz PARTS! Easy to disassemble/reassemble.
