Mikkelfarside
Hi all! Does anyone know aprox. how many of these guitars (1964 j-45 adj cherry sunburst) were made? And is there anyway I can trace former owners of my guitar for example trough serial number (I know its a long shot!!!)? Thanks! Mikkel, Copenhagen, Denmark. rar
Does anyone know aprox. how many of these guitars (1964 j-45 adj cherry sunburst) were made? Somebody may have a more precise answer, but the short approximate answer is: A heck of a lot! Gibson was building around 80,000 instruments a year at that point, and the J-45 was a very popular model. And is there anyway I can trace former owners of my guitar for example trough serial number Nope. Even if the original owner registered for warranty coverage -- and that's far from a sure thing -- those records are no doubt long gone. There's some chance you could find out the dealer it originally shipped to, since Gibson apparently did attempt to hang on to shipping records. But I don't know who, if anyone, has a copy of the records for '64. -- Bob R
KL
Bob is right. I sometimes wonder where some of my guitars started out and who owned them etc.
zombywoof
According to my little book with Gibson shipping totals in it, just over 3,440 J-45 ADJs were shipped in 1964. To give you an idea of just how many this was only some 555 burst SJs were shipped that year and less than 300 J-200s.
