In the text editor mode, a few lines below the text box there is a seciton called "Options" Click the radio button which is labeled "Click to configure post options" Make sure your emoticons are enabled. I also seem to recall, if memory serves me, and some times it don't,, there was a 'enable full color text editing' or some such. This seems to have gone away.
