Westrex had bought Ei, and now they're making an R&D facility in Chattanooga. According to a wikipedia conversation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk%3AVacuum_tube) someone had heard that this site will be using the tooling purchased from Ei in serbia.

If this is true, we can pronounce Ei dead. Although I doubt western electric would ever make anything but hifi tubes, it'll be interesting to see how this turns out.

Actually my VOXAC50CP was re-tubed with Groove Tubes that were made on the old GE machines. Also my re-worked MesaBoogie MarkIIB Combo is currently being re-tubed with the same tubes, and getting a pre-amp / FX loop mod as well... cant wait to get that amp out of the shop.

You can still get new old stock tubes that are USA made, but IMO it's risky purchasing a tube that old, despite it being new out of the box.

I believe those are being made in china... Don't doubt that they're being made on the old machinery though. The reason i'm interested in Ei's situation is because they used to make tubes under the phillips license. If that means their machinery is the old phillips machinery from holland, I have some tubes made on that. [they're in my Hammond organ... 1962 M-103])

Yeah, well... I'd test anything NOS that has been tested on a new amplitrex tester...

(now if only I had the money for that thing, I'd buy tons of tubes off eBay...)

I heard China as well...

That's some crazy info you're throwing out [thumbup] ..... It's refreshing to see a thread concerning tubes....

You now have me gooole-in stuff right now

Yeah, i've sort of lost interest in the forums ever since the Epiphone forums were combined with the Gibson forums... but I don't have anywhere else to talk about new tubes. The people at The Organ Forum only talk about old tubes and there's some audiophile forum that I'm sure wouldn't care either.
