snowbum007
I've posted here a few times the mods I have been doing on my Dot and I think I may have finished. I thought I might post a few pics. Be nice please, the pics are from my phone. I put GFS Vintage '59s in the neck and bridge and replaced the nut with a tusq nut. The pups are set up with switches in the volume pots for single coil/humbucker operation. I also added GFS locking tuners. http://img176.imageshack.us/i/photo1ho.jpg/] I also added a bigsby B5 mounted to a vibramate. http://img840.imageshack.us/i/photo4rp.jpg/] http://img808.imageshack.us/img808/3366/photo2jpgw.jpg The other thing I did (actually my neighbor, who happens to be a luthier) was to install a schaller roller bridge. This is not a direct drop and my neighbor drilled out part of the original bridge posts and pressed the schaller posts into them. It seems to work well. I really wanted this bridge for it's ability to adjust. The strings now line up over the pole pieces and they did not when I first bought the guitar. Here is a close up. http://img526.imageshack.us/i/photo3zs.jpg/] All things said this is a great guitar!

snowbum007
I know the B7 is what you usually see but I like the vibramate option for the B5 because there is no drilling. If I change my mind I can always go back to the original set up.
jcwillow777
Looks nice. I put a set of 59s in my Dot too, and I really like the improvement. I put a B-70 on mine and don't regret it. I thought about the Vibramate for a while, but opted for the B70. But like you said, if you don't like it, you can change it without any unwanted holes. amx05462
yeah that is a good point but doesnt the right one mount where the strap hole is. plus two small screws near it? nothing on the guitar face?
jcwillow777
yeah that is a good point but doesnt the right one mount where the strap hole is. plus two small screws near it? nothing on the guitar face? The Vibramate for B7 will not work on a Dot. The distance from the tailpiece holes to the button it too far. It is definitely a nice option for a Les Paul. By the way, there is a plate for the B7 to mount to the button without drilling any holes in the guitar. I may pick one up for my '80 Gibson LP. I definitely don't want and holes drilled in it. http://www.vibramate.com/vibramate-v7-lp-install.php I have seen a ZZ type of Vibramate using a B7 or 70, but I think it was on a Les Paul, not a Dot. It comes as an entire unit an is about the same price as the Vibramate/B7 combo. Maybe more. I don't remember the maker. Personally, I didn't care for the looks of it.
