HELP

I recently acquired this Les Paul. I do not know anything about it. I am not a guitar player and only bought it because the guy needed money. Can you help me with date, value, authenticity and any other info? I know it needs a little end for the switch, where do you get these? Any and all info will be helpful. I have the case also, is this worth anything? Thank you in advance for the help.

You have what I believe to be an "Epi Les Paul Classic Red Quilt Top". I have a

2006 AMBER Classic. Production ended on this model in 2006, not sure when it was

started. Your serial # indicates:

Your guitar was made at the

Unsung Plant, Korea

January 1999

Production Number: 4822

Research would be needed to verify that model was made in Korea before being

produced at the Daewoo, China plant, and when production was started. I've

only seen Classics from Daewoo Plant.

Typical colors: Red, Amber, Grey, Blue.

Tuners are not stock, I've SEEN this type before, but cannot ID.

Truss rod cover usually has "Les Paul Classic", but if made in Korea,

they may have been using the "Gibson" TRC in those days.

Switch Tip may possibly be found at local music store - just make sure it

is for an Epi/Import/Metric, not for a USA Gibson (threads are different).

Case costs $79.00.

Ebay selling prices usually range from $300 - $399 (based on condition),

but I have seen bidding go higher on the Red Quilt tops, depending on how

badly the bidder wanted it. I paid $300 for mine on ebay, and it was MINT condition.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: Just for grins, pull the knob control cover off the back, and

see if the potentiometers inside are regular size (1") or mini pots.

Epis come with Full Size/Regular pots.

If you look closely I think they do say Sperzel.

Yeah, the pic is a little blurry. It looks like it says something, or used to say something, but I figure that if there was a name on them, he wouldnt have asked about the brand. Maybe if he takes a closer look at them he can make something out. They might just be gunked up and illegible.

Basically it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. I've seen Ebony Standards sell for $300-$350 without a case. Considering that this is a relatively rare finish, you should be able to find someone willing to pay $400-$450 for it which is what I often see Plus tops selling for on various sites like ebay and craigslist. But if you're in a hurry to sell it, you shouldn't expect to get top dollar. Ask more than you are willing to settle for and let yourself get bargained down a bit and you should have no problem selling her.

As a side note: Animalfarm, I think only recent Epis come with full sized pots. If I remember correctly, older ones have mini-pots.
