What did he mean by that

The wife took me to see George Jones in Rockford last weekend. He's not as good as he once was but he's as good once as he ever was.... almost.

Great concert, but GJ is slowing down a bit.

He sang a song either written or recorded by some younger buck, like George Strait or Garth Brooks, don't rightly remember who. In the build up to the song GJ said that this feller had recorded it, but that he was lucky he didn't record it as a single, but rather as part of an album.

What did that mean?

I'm not sure what Jones was referring to. I'd love to know what the song was.

Sparky, I agree with you on Ray Price. For his age, he still sounds amazing.

Funny story. A few years ago, I was playing the Grand Ole Opry. I was standing in the wings of the stage right next to Price. On stage was some young country-rock band with holes in their jeans, t-shirts, etc. Price, who always had a classy looking band impeccably dressed, was obviously not impressed. He looked over at one of his band members and said, "Well, I guess we better go out there and run it right up their @$%." Then he took the stage, sang 'Heartaches By the Number" and "For The Good Times" and got a standing ovation.

The cool factor was high.
