I just bought a Burstbucker 2 that's like Gibson say, un-potted and 2 conductor wire, I bought a Burstbucker 3 that IS wax potted and has 4 conductor wiring, they both come new in a Gibson case. What gives?, is the BB3 authentic, and will they work together. I got the from e-bay off a guitar store in the USA, (I'm in Australia) and am worried I got duped. Anyone there that can help me. Thanks

Anzac,

I know nothing about Burstbuckers.....but.....

According to the Gibson website the BB 1,2 and 3 are not wax potted. They also have Alnico 2 magnets.

According to their website, all have braided 2 conductor wire.

The BB Pro is wax potted. It has Alnico 5 magnets.

There is no mention of 4 wire conductor on the BB Pro. That doesn't mean there is not one.

Read these:

http://store.gibson.com/Products/Pickups-and-Electronics/Humbucker-Pickups/Burstbucker-Type-3.aspx

http://www.gibson.com/press/strings/pr/BBPro.html

If it was me and I had any question I would contact Gibson customer service.

I just purchased a new BB2 and the name on the box is "BurstBucker2 4-conductor, Wax Potted". This is repeated again later in the product description in the box. Note - this does not match the Gibson website, nor the descriptions at MF or GC on-line. I did check the other BBs in the shelf in the store (about 8), and all of the BB2s and BB3 said "wax potted". I raised a few screw poles to check at home and no obvious wax, but looking underneath I see what looks like some wax in the corners of the cover. Perhaps they are now potting them? (the winder's signatire on bottom of the PU is late 2010). Alternatively, perhaps they are just potting around the coils to tame cover squeel and not actually in the coils? Definately 4-conductor. 8.05K ohms.

These are new additions to the pickup line. The regular 2 conductor BB 1 2 and 3 are still unpotted, but we just released the BB 4-conductors that are wax potted.

Just for the folks who dig the BB series, but wanted wax potting w/ 4 conductors for coil-tapping.
