rabbuhl
I got a Gibson Custom 1960 Les Paul Plaintop last year and am really happy with the guitar. It stays in tune, plays well, and for the most part sounds great. One of the guys from Musicians Friend Reserve picked it out and the bridge pickup really scream. The neck pick is okay and perhaps a bit muddy. I can always try an aftermarket pickup but wanted to stick with a burstbucker 1 for the neck. Any chance the custom shop would let me send them the burstbucker 1 for a swap with perhaps are better sounding one?
Flight959
No they wont swap.... Why dont you try adjusting the height of the pickup...
rabbuhl
I currently use the recommended settings of 1/16 inch for the bridge pickup and 3/32 inch for the neck pickup. I will try lowering the pickups a bit to see if that cleans up the tone a bit.
Tim Plains
Forget about factory specs and use your ear to find the right height. You can also try adjusting the pole pieces. I think BBs are great pickups once you dial them in.
FennRx
if you can't get the BB to sound right, try a WCR Crossroads-it is an amazing pickup
