tweed2
Does the thickness of a pickguard affect the sound? I want to replace one and I see where some sites list thin ones (.030) for acoustics, while others list thicker ones (up to .106). Would that extra thickness affect the top vibration? Just askin'. bonzoboy
A lot of things could affect the vibration of the top with regard to the pickguard. It's all dependant on the size and thickness of the pickguard and the resonating properties and thickness of adhesives used to apply it.Understandably the huge double pickguards on Everly Brother's Gibsons were refered to as tone and volume robbers. I think if you went with a standard sized pickguard and an approved glue the effect on your tone and volume would be minimal but having said that I'd tend to go with the thinnest possible guard available as the life of even the thinnest pickguards is years. Ship of fools
absolutely the thicker the less vibration to the top, you might as well lean on the top and steal volume that way, go with the thinner one better yet get yourself a thin plastic ( clear ) one.ship
