mindstealer Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I recently purchased a 2006 Gibson Les Paul Studio in worn brown and was wondering what year Gibson changed the name of the series from Vintage Mahogany to Faded. I have not seen this question definitively answered. Also does anyone know what pickups were in the 2006 VM or Faded? Burstbuckers or 490s? Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.
cjmwrx Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 The name change occurred with the switch to the Maple cap this year. But the Pickup configuration changed in 2009 to BB Pros. Before that they were 490/498. If you are that concerned about it, you can pull your pickups out at your next string change and check them. If they are BBs, the will be noted as such with a label underneath. 490/498s get no such labeling. There are some 07s that have shown up with BB Pros also. So who really knows. I would call Gibson.
mindstealer Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 I was under the impression that the original Vintage Mahoganys had Burstbucker pickups too. Can anyone confirm this and what year they stopped using Burstbuckers to go to the 490/498 combo?
scmglotr Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 my 2004 faded brown studio has burst bucker pro's. As far as I know, they have always had the bb's.
thejay Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 I had two of these guitars purchased a year apart, both with BB Pros
