If you put your own name on it, then you're just another $300 Gibson copy competing against a hundred other $300 Gibson copies. You're likely only going to get a 1% piece of that pie. Now, put Gibson on the headstock and you have something that puts you above those 99 other brands. Even the guy who knowingly buys it as a "replica" is doing so because of the name on the headstock.
