Pechy
Hello! I have a Epi Les Paul Standard 60s Tribute. Serial number is: F304956. Application http://www.guitardaterproject.org/epiphone.aspx says: Your guitar was made at the Fuji-gen Plant, Japan 2003 Production Number: 04956th But this is not possible, this model has been produced since 2009. What do you think? Thank you for your opinion. Peter.
RobinTheHood
For non-Japanese Epiphone, the prefix "F" would indicate Fine Guitars (Korea). However, I was under the impression that Epiphone stopped producing guitars in Korea in 2007-2008 and that production was only in China and Indonesia with the exception of the remaining Elitist models from Japan. Not really sure if they still make guitars at the Fine plant in Korea. Maybe someone else will know for sure.
SNick
How about a picture of your guitar. Guitar dater has a problem with Epi after 2008 - if I remember right that is.
Pechy
The serial number on the head by a guitar is not color, but stamped into the wood.
Pechy
I'm not saying no, but how did it come from?
SNick
The only thing Epi still makes in Japan is the Elitist models. I am beginning to think you have a fake.
Pechy
I would not say. Here is more on the forum posts to this model, the serial number also includes the letter F. Epiphone currently on your site does not Elitist category. Tribute Model 60s is "higher" model. The guitar has all the specifications that should have, including a hard case ... Pechy
For example this thread: http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/60797-the-epiphone-tribute-les-paul-standard/page__p__1174593__hl__%2B60s+%2Btribute__fromsearch__1#entry1174593 , or here: http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/82399-epiphone-les-paul-60s-tribute-serial/page__p__1127236__hl__60s+tribute__fromsearch__1#entry1127236
RobinTheHood
From the thread you linked to: I bought a 60s Tribute Plus over the weekend. Has an F number stamped into it, and a sticker on the peghead that says Made In China. They are made in China. I do not know what the "F" means. Probably nothing. Pechy
Yes, it probably is. My guitar has a sticker "Hand crafted in China" too. The strange thing is that 1) the letter F is used, 2) is not painted, but carved in wood.
RobinTheHood
That is the same thing that the other member stated about his guitar, so apparently it is not unusual. The letter designation doesnt seem to mean anything on these new models. At one time "F" stood for either Fuji-gen (Japan) or Fine Guitars (Korea). But that time is gone. We havent figured out what it means yet, if anything at all.
