Roughneck
Hi guys, I have a Gibson BFG, the discontinued version not the new Gary Moore. It has a P90 in the neck and a burstbucker 3 in the bridge, the pickup selector by the tone pot and a kill switch where the traditional pickup selector is on a normal les paul. Its all standard with no mods. However, It has a ground fault issue which I just cannot seem to solve. 1. To start with The buzz went away when you touch the pickup selector switch, a. I checked and replaced all the earth wire b. I found that the earth wire was not connected to the bridge post so I drilled and soldered the wire to the base of the post. I also removed the black coating between the posts and the bridge and the same on the saddle 2. The above has now made the ground fault buzz so that it goes away when I touch the strings or any of the metal parts. This is slightly better as I can hold on to the strings live. However I would really love to solve this issue altogether and need some expert help. Could it be something to do with the pickup and electronic bays being not shielded with copper tape or shielding paint ? I know that single coil P90's do produce hum, but this is not that kind of hum. Were talking about a deffinate ground loop buzz here. I have good earth continuity between all components, Help me Obi Wan gibson, your my only hope ATB Chris
Searcy
This is perfectly normal. The only fix for this small amount of hum is to buy a noise reduction system of some kind.
