SGJ
I have an opportunity to buy a set of pickups from a early 90's SG standard. What would be a fair price?
ninety1vee
are they a 490R and a 498T? depends on condition, but anywhere from $80-150 i wouldn't go over why? are you lookin' for that SG sound?
SGJ
I have a non-gibson explorer shaped guitar I'd like to put these pickups into. The seller didn't know the model number of the pickups, only that they came from an SG Standard.
SGJ
Here's a picture of the pickups
clance
looks like they used to have gold pickup covers that someone removed
SGJ
The pickups are actually from a 1990's limited edition SG. Thats all I know. If I knew the serial number of the guitar would I be able to tell what kind of pickups they are?
SGJ
I have the serial number. Is there a way I can determine what kind of pickups where in the guitar?
modoc_333
call gibson. first you have to find out what model it was. a picture of the back of the pups would help too.
modoc_333
does your explorer copy have gold hardware? if not, these pups are going to look stupid in it. (IMHO)
Dynadude
If you want to get rid of the ultra thin layer of gold plate, just take out the screws and buff them on a cloth with some good metal polish. It will come right off. No problem. You could measure the resistance of the pickups to help narrow down the model.
SGJ
Well I've decided to buy a 1980 SG instead (see my other thread), so I now have Hamer explorer copy for sale.
