Guitarman377
I bought my son a NEW Epiphone Lt. Riviera P93 w/gold hardware recently. He absolutely loves the guitar. It plays great, and looks like a million dollars. However, he is having a real issue with keeping the nut on the 1/4in. jack on the face of the guitar. It keeps unscrewing itself, (usually 5 min. before a live show of course). This has happened 8 or 9 times in the 5 months he has owned it. The last time it happened I even went as far as putting a drop or two of Blue thread locker on the nut, with no luck of course. It let go again the other night during a show! This is truely an excellent instrument, but it keeps letting him down when he really needs to be able to depend on it. I've had many guitars in the past and this one is the first that keeps on doing this over and over. It appears to me that the jack is not tall enough and so not enough thread is sticking through the face of the guitar. Is there a fix for this from Gibson, or does anybody have any ideas out there????????
Kaiser Bill
Lock washer!!!
Guitarman377
Lock washer!!! I even thought about that Bill, however, there is not enough thread sticking out to even think about trying to slip a lockwasher in under the nut!!! If the jack was taller thats exactly what I'd do provided I could even find a GOLD lockwasher..
wiggy
A PhBr or BeCu Crinkle washer will do the trick. These are thin enough when compressed to fit and will hold the nut in place

RIX
There might be another nut on the under side of the jack with a lock washer. If the jack threads have not become strip then you can gain more threads for the outer nut by backing down that nut. Or the lock washer is missing. This a very tricky operation unless the guitar has an access panel on the back of the guitar. If the guitar does not have an access panel you can use a slim cable that fits the through the whole for the jack that will help you guide it back once you have check the jack and made any adjustments. If the guitar is under warranty take back to the store where you bought it and have them fix it. Helpful links be low. http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_pickups/Components:_Jacks/Switchcraft_Output_Jack.html http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Special_tools_for_Electronics,_pickups/Jack_The_Gripper.html?actn=100101&xst=1&xsr=4652&tab=Video Hope that helps. Whitmore Willy
Switchcraft also makes a jack with a 3/8' long thread if you need more length to add a lock washer: http://www.guitarelectronics.com/product/JK12/Switchcraft-14-Guitar-Jack-w-38-Threaded-Collar.html It's not gold but if you add a gold washer and nut, I don't think it would look too terrible: http://www.guitarelectronics.com/product/NWPJ1-21/Dress-Nuts-and-Flat-Washers-for-Guitar-Pots-and-Jacks-Gold.html You would have to open up the hole a bit to go from metric to imperial. Nothing a piece of sand paper and a pencil can't handle. I've also shortened the short end of an allen wrench and inserted it into a jack to keep it from turning. I then held the long end with a small pair of pliers while tightening the nut. Just a thought, Willy

Kaiser Bill
Rix had the same idea I had (after I logged off)...there may be a second nut underneath. Back that off and use a lock or better yet...a STAR washer. Most Switchcraft jacks I've bought come with them. Bada big bada boom Bobs yer unkle.
