I use web tab player sometimes and I often see a symbol at the top of the tab usually directly above a note that is like an A or ^ symbol. Can someone please tell me what this symbol means? thanks

I think that designates picking with an upstroke.
I'd have to see a sample to be 100% sure

Definitely depends on the tab. I've seen some online that have very different meanings for the symbols used, although they generally are accompanied by a key.

^ means damping on the tab I'm familiar with.
