88mmll
Just got a new Musicians Friend catalog and noticed the $4k J45 with a gorgeous torrified top that has new rolled fret boards(bout time!). Any one tried some, and if so, how does the Adi topped J45 play and sound?
duluthdan
Tried one this past June at the Gibson homecoming in Bozeman, Montana. Tried to buy it - too early, was not for sale, just a prototype to drool over. I would have sold my Legend to finance this one, it was that good. Might be time to prep an acoustic in a sale? I have wanted rolled edges for 40 years. On the wish list still is a flatter radius. 14 or 15". Thicker neck at the first fret (.803" is way to skinny), and I wish the fret ends were hot dogged (round). But the adi top looks so great and they improved the finish too. And that old time sunburst is mojo! The new tuners look good. I just might have to drive a couple hours to try one, or three. http://www.gibson.com/Products/Acoustic-Instruments/2016/J-45-Vintage.aspx
J-1854Me
I played one of these at Music Villa the other day -- it was a tone monster! Ver-r-r-r-y nice! Fred
MorrisrownSal
Now I'm sad I sold my Southern Jumbo..... Oh well... fresh GAS!
Smurfbird
Why sad, Sal? As long as you're willing to expand your stable to five guitars, you have the joy of the hunt in front of you. And if you want the torrified top, it looks like it's sure enough to show up eventually.
Jesse_Dylan
I can only speak for my "sister" guitar, the Hummingbird Vintage, also with a torrefied top (sitka, though, not Adirondack), and it's amazing! I hope they keep doing these models. I'd be interested to see a J-185 Vintage. (I also hope they keep doing walnut, too, because I'd also like to see a J-185 Walnut!)
