  1. I don't know about the good ear, but I definitely got a Tinnitus ear that's for sure. On my other guitar a Les Paul came with 10 -46 strings, sounded spot on . I tried 9-46 strings and it sounded to tinny on the high end strings,so back to 10-46 strings.
  2. My 2019 SG Gibson has 9-46 strings from the factory as original. I put on 10-46 strings and have found that I lost that SG bite sound on the E, B and G strings when on the Bridge pickup which I mainly use, it just sounded darker, no bite, so back to 9-46 strings for me.
  3. On my SG Gibson Standard 2019 , I lowered the tail- piece all the way down to the body and then played the guitar , then I raised the tail-piece a quarter of an inch higher and it sounded the same, then I raised the tail-piece a half inch from the body and it rung out beautifully ( found the sweet spot). The 6 low E string touches the back of the bridge , but the tail-piece is raised to were it sounds best , so it's not a concern if it string touches the back of the bridge. So basically just experiment with your guitar...............
  4. Glad to hear it turned out all well for you Archer 911.....I hope Gibson realise to get there act together....
  5. If the cavity lid cover on the back of the guitar was made from " heavy metal" ( excuse the pun) instead of plastic it would balance out the guitar and get no neck dive at all.....try it out for your self.....Blu tack some metal weights on the cavity cover.....but as soon as you pick it up it's heavy like a Les Paul......so it is what it is .....the beauty of the SG Gibson is it's nice and light.....I use a 3 inch quality leather strap and neck dive won't exist.
  6. I had the same issue with the nut on my 2019 SG Gibson Standard that I bought brand new . These nuts are Tekoid nuts according to Gibson specs, but can't find any details on Google about these nuts . Anyway after a while it bugged me that the nut looks crap on an expensive guitar so I put on a Graph tech nut and now it looks the way it should be.....nice, neat and tidy. If you never put on a nut before I suggest taking it to a guitar tech, lots of mucking around to get it right..... anyway nothing wrong with the Tekoid nut , it's not split or broken , just the ends look rough , just doesn't look good on the guitar....new guitars need to worn in....play for a while , get accustomed to your guitar then change what you don't like. On my SG I only changed the nut after about a year of playing it.... everything else is spot on .... don't let a $20- dollar part spoil your fun.... remember you got the best guitar on the planet.....Gibson forever.....
  7. The strings should not be touching the back of the bridge, looks like a Nashville bridge on your guitar. I definitely would do a overwrap on your guitar. Lower the stoptail flush to the body and feed the strings over the stoptail.....hope this helps......
  8. Yeah the strap I'm using now is 3 and a half inches wide and don't get no neck dive at all.....only when sitting down with no strap... minor issue...... changing tuners won't help from other comments so far.....all good , it's a SG Gibson ..........
  9. I only put the strap on when standing up , a thick strap helps with neck dive, there is none.... sounds like changing tuners won't help, due to other comments as well...... anyway it's just a minor issue.....I'm thinking I should look at other end of guitar at the back where the pots and circuits are, in that plastic cover . If the cover was made of metal and had a heat shield inside were pots sit it should balance out the guitar..... something for me to experiment with..... I've heard some people put weights in that area but I won't be doing that.....
  10. Not using nylon straps, I know they don't work for neck-dive......i use a thick strap and get no neck-dive at all.... as I mentioned , i only get neck-dive when sitting down with no strap on....but it's no big deal....
  11. Yeah kidblast came up with a good idea.... I'll try that for sure......as you mentioned about filling in the holes, yikes don't want to do that. thought they would alline the same way...... Yeah I use a thick strap and get no neck-dive at all.... only when sitting down and playing but as I mentioned it's no big deal..... just tinkering around...... the Grover's seem heavy but don't have any problem with them at all.....
  12. Yeah kidblast came up with a good idea...... I'll try that for sure......as you mentioned about filling in the holes, yikes, don't want to do that, didn't think about that, thought they would alline the same way..... Yeah I use a thick strap and get no neck-dive at all.....only when sitting down and not wearing a strap.....but as i mentioned it's no big deal.....just tinkering around...... the Grover's seem heavy but don't have any problem at all with them .....
  13. Good idea about removing the tuners, I will try that... .Yeah I use a thick strap as well and get no neck- dive at all, only when sitting down and playing . but as U mentioned it's no big deal...
  14. Good idea about removing the tuners, I will try that..... Yeah I use a thick strap as well and get no neck- dive at all, only when sitting down and playing, but as I mentioned it's no big deal......
  15. Got a SG Gibson Standard 2019 with Grover tuners. Great tuners , nothing wrong with them , but was thinking of putting Vintage style tuners as SG Gibson '61 reissue came out with to solve neck dive in SG, not that's it a real issue, but playing the SG while sitting on lounge with no strap, man that's a lot of weight up in neck area and down she goes , and thought that's what contributes to SG neck dive. I read that Vintage style tuners are much lighter than Grover's tuners, but don't want to buy Vintage style tuners if it doesn't work . So has anybody changed them over................
  16. Yeah guitar came with a 1 year warranty from new......when I first got it I played all the time.....all fixed now......good to take it to a guitar tech every 2 years or so to get it checked over.....keep it looking and sounding good......I can do basic setups but crowning frets, that's definitely job for the pro's.....I'll check out those articles that you sent ...cheers .....
  17. Yeah I do play the SG often.....I think they released the 2019 models with medium jumbo frets as well. Mine are low frets thou....anyway they have been fixed now.....more playing.....cheers
  18. Yeah I didn't know about cryogenic frets till I checked out specs on my guitar. Must not be that good because new Les Pauls and SGs mention medium jumbo frets, nothing about cryogenic frets. Anyway guitar tech did a good job on level crown and polish.....
  19. LHi guys, I have a 2019 SG Gibson Standard Heritage Cherry Red bought brand new in 2019. Manufactured October 2018 as in Gibson warranty card . According to specifications on Gibson sites it comes with Low- cryogenically treated frets ( resistance to wear) . My frets had divets on them ( mainly on 1st, 2nd and 3rd frets) after 1 year and 9 months of playing and had to have them Level, crowned and polished which I did without hesitation because it's a killer guitar, it's a keeper. Just want to know if any one else has had this problem with low - cryogenically treated frets or is it just hype.
