  1. Well....to keep this  "Guitar Related", I'll be playing my Gibson Hummingbird 12-String learning Dave Mason's "We Just Disagree" during the eclipse!   (we don't want Cammo to get all butt-hurt!)

I've got underwear older than the two of you.......and I'm wearing it.

    Yeah....we KNOW!

At least now you've figured out that yellow goes to the front and brown goes to the rear!

If so, they would just be moving guitars for Gibson for free and that ain’t happening especially scumbag Guitar Center.

Guitar center has always been good to me..... I usually buy remote.... don't usually go into a store to 'shop'.

Bought my DIF from GC in SF....never went there....when I got it....it was PERFECT!

Bought my 'Bird from GC in SJ....told them over the phone to put it away so no 14 year-old put their grimy mitts on it and scratch it up.... I went to the store there to pick it up and it was PERFECT!

I bought a Fender Passport PA System from a GC on the East Coast.... it was PERFECT!

I got my J-50 (GILLIG Staff bought it for me) from a GC in Washington.....it was PERFECT!

Not sure how they could have done better.

So here is an Epi LP Melody Maker E1 coming in at a very affordable $179. So that is the out the door all day price at any store, and it also has to make the company a profit. So how much dues a guitar costing that much, or little depending on how you look at actually cost to make?

Many years ago I  bought my son and (at that time) D-I-L a matching pair of Epi Black guitars....one was a Dove the other was a Hummingbird.   I think the price was $350 for each....I bought them hardshell cases...... Couch straps.....tuners..... picks..... was probably just over $425 each, (brand-new), when I gave them to them.....they're pretty nice guitars, (I made a couple of videos with them before I gave them to them (Christmas).    Of course, the ex-D-I-L took hers.... probably ended up in a pawn shop somewhere.... my son still has his....I got a professional set-up on it.

If price is a consideration, they really aren't bad.   I seriously doubt my Gibson Dove and Gibson Hummingbird are ten times better....they ARE better....but not 10 times!

  5. I've played my B-I-L's J-160e many times....it's a great guitar.

He got is specifically for the "Beatle Sound", (He was in several "Tribute" bands.).

Gibson makes several cut-aways.  I thought there was  a direct link to Gibson Guitar models somewhere on this forum.

    Good luck.

I'm so sorry to hear about your wife of many years....may she Rest In Peace with no more illness.

Taking more meat away from the already 17 degree classic angle,  on a 12er with about 50 to 75 percent more tension than a 6 string? Sounds risky.

What's the option?   Turn it into a harp?

I guess I managed to shake them up as the ENT office called back.

My antibiotic sinus rinse is being prepared at an unspecified pharmacy at an unknown location and will be ready in a couple of days.

I hope I don't have to go down a dark alleyway and meet a guy next to the dumpster and tell him that Ahmad the nose guy from York sent me.

When I was first married, my mother-in-law would have me go downtown to a drug store.... go to the prescription counter....ask for "Johnny".

Johnny would give me a plain brown paper bag with "something" in it.....I didn't know what it was (still don't), no money exchanged hands....but my M-I-L said just get it and leave immediately.

To rationalize your experience it would help to think of the average patient your doctor sees. They are old, fat, stupid, and tend to think they know better than the doctor. The doctor shouldn’t treat every old fat guy the same but after seeing a million old stupid fat guys he stops explaining so many nuances which are lost on the patient 99% of the time anyways

    Oh, quit flattering us!

The Rite Of Spring caused an uproar when Stravinsky debuted it.

The novel Naked Lunch by W S Burroughs was banned for a while after it came out.

When I was a kid, I used to sneak my dad's  paperbacks when he was finished.....some of them made "Catcher In The Rye" seem pretty tame!

I’ve had a few Koa guitars. I thought they were closer to mahogany, a little quieter.

I've only had this one...and it is certainly quieter than my J-50.(mahogany).

I've discovered that for whatever reason, I tend to do all my fingerpicking (not much) on my old Jubilee...not sure why....it's mahogany, but smaller than the dreds.

I watch your Videos & enjoy them.. Your Bird does sound really good. I’ve been curious about Koa.. In Hawaii it’s the wood of choice for Ukes.. I have seen & heard how amazing they look & how incredible they sound.. Does Koa have the strength of Rosewood?

Oh...and thanks for mentioning  my videos.

They're really not for "presentation" as much as "documentation".

I hope my grandkids will someday recognize the effort.

I'm not sure about comparing Koa to Rosewood.... I need to try a good Rosewood guitar to see.

The Hummingbird is one of my most favorite Guitars.. It is on my short list..

They come with several different choices for Backs & Sifes. Mahogany, Maple, Rosewood & Koa…

Price from low to high.. The Standard has Mahogany.. Originals have Maple.  The Deluxe has Rosewood Back & Sides. The Custom has Koa & is the most expensive.

A lot of choices! They must all have their own unique Sound.. They all should have different Tones & Volume levels.

Has anyone played all 4 side by side? or own all 4? If budget wasn’t an issue which one would you choose? And Why?

Lars, you know I have the Koa.   I've had it for 13 years....and it REALLY opened up after 7-8 years.    The neck is wider than my Doves, and with the short scale, is wonderful to play and gives me the perfect backing for my (awful) singing.

The Hummingbird 12-String is a monster.... will drown out the Doves without even trying....but that could be because of the extra 6 strings....it's mahogany and was well opened up before I got it from Leslie.

If you want to be heard in a acoustic jam....then a Dove is what you should choose.   Maple, long scale....both of mine are VERY aggressive and used to being played HARD.

Nope.  It's because 'attic'  is too close to the protagonist "Atticus Finch"  in the Pulitzer prize winning novel  "To Kill a Mockingbird" , which has been banned in some school districts.

And the novel was banned in schools because the kids kept getting "To Kill A Mockingbird" confused with "Tequila Shots are Good".

I belong to the Ugly HedgeHog forum. One of the sub forums is called the Attic. There you can say anything, anyway you want. You can cuss out a forum member if you so desire. It’s free speech. Maybe we need one of those here. I also belong to the acoustic guitar forum.  I once said something to really upset the moderators and they banned me for life. After a year I begged for a second chance and it was granted. So, in whatever forum I happen to be in I am very careful what I write. I can’t count the number of times I’ve had to bite my fingers and keep my fingers off the keyboard.

We can't use the "Attic" here....that's where we keep all the archtops!

When I was in the Army (as a Warrant Officer aviator), I learned to try and take care of my junior Officers.
Those butter-bars and 1LT's were going to be Company Commanders and Squadron Commanders some day.

And a lot of us Warrants, and the forward -thinking NCOs, felt that it was our job to make sure that they grew up to be really good senior Officers and Commanders some day.

Shoot, my LT in the First Gulf War just retired last year as a 2 Star General.
And he was a fine man and great leader at the end of it all.

But I can't take credit for but so much of that.
    🙂

When I was in the Army, many ( most?) of the junior officers were just in for  3 years…..then back to “The World”.

I was offered OCS but when they told me I’d have to extend for an additional year, I said no thanks…..so they offered my NCO school…..was an additional 12 weeks of training…..could still get out after 2 years…..but was a 100% chance of going to ‘Nam…so I said no to that too.
Went to ‘Nam anyway…..but as a PFC.

The Leatherman I carried in my pocket was more useful than the new Ensign’s that checked onboard.

There are good ones....we had a 1st Lieutenant in 'Nam, (Jim Fitzpatrick)  was a GREAT guy.... kept me safe from the Quan Loi Base Commander (Full-Bird Colonel) when I got caught sliding our Captain's Jeep sideways with a bunch of guys I was taking out to the perimeter for guard duty one night....he told me the Colonel dressed him down pretty good....but I escaped any punishment.

I do not miss saluting clowns just because they went to a military academy and earned a degree. I earned mine while I was in, but one and no one saluted me. When I was a chief and a senior chief, and I had to deal with Ensign’s (O-1), most of them were stupider than my E-3’s.

There's the old question.....Why do 2nd Lieutenants wear a gold bar?

So you can tell them apart from the Trainees!

So it wasn’t that John Phillips Sousa guy?

Kinda looks like the guy from the Hotels.com advertisement....but that would require a commission and 2 promotions to "O-3"!
