  1. No, that is the function of the selector. It implements a route for the electric signal. (so we have 3 different routes. When the neck PU is selected, the bridge PU is offline and its generated signal is bypassed)

Advice: don't ever leave a finger in  that toaster. 😁

I purchased a new G-45 studio and the setup was horrible with the buzz actually muting the B & E strings. The guitar shop could not adjust it out and said to send it back to Gibson.  I contacted Gibson 4 times with no reply. Now, I’m stuck with a new $1,000. Guitar I can’t use. I found Gibson will not stand behind their products. I own a songbird deluxe which is a good guitar and the G45 studio was to be a practice guitar. Do not buy this guitar, the necks have problems and warranty is no good.

The retailer is the one who should take care of the warranty.
Did you go to Gibson's website and register the guitar?

  3. There was a video series "Gibson: The Process" where Jim DeCola spoke on this difference of 50s and modern construction techiques. What he said is "they're different, but it doesn't mean one is better than the other". This goes specifically for the "long tennon" debate. We all accept that, he knows what he's talking about.

As far as pricing goes... Gibson is like any other responsible producer. It sells its products for the prices it can get. Meaning, that if anything is "overpriced", people will not buy it.  So they have to adjust their pricing exactly to where they think the market will buy it. Otherwise there'd be surplus and huge discounts at retail shops.

I think Gibson is doing a mighty fine job on everything like its products, pricing, quantities, quality & they even have great videos on YouTube. Just like all the other guitar companies. You have to build great stuff and sell it for a decent price, or you will go out of business. That's the beauty of the free market.😎

  4. I did some hollowbody-hunting, and guess what I found? A time-forward reference for Gibson Citation, Byrdland and Super 400, coming "in a few months". I never had any of those in my hands, but I see some of the great guitarists played them for real. This is from Thomann's website and they posted some great photos of each of the models. Even the prices are not being kept secret by anybody. (add 15% to get the price in Euros). 🤠

No, I did not buy a new or used Martin. No Zappa or Beatles, either.

I was in GC in North Myrtle Beach, and I saw hanging on the wall and UNLOCKED was a $7499 Tom Murphy light aged '59 (but let's be real, it was a 2023) LP. Well hell yeah I'm gonna be a 16 year old, and play the most expensive guitar in the joint. At first glance, it actually looked okay. It had a few chips of paint off of it, and the entire guitar had lacquer checking.  Still seeing one up close I am still not a fan of fake aging. Now to the nuts and bolts. The guitar sounded really killer. It was set up really nice. This was a new one and not a used one. The worst thing about the guitar was the neck was really sticky. The salesman even stopped and talked to me for a few mins, and he said that it was the only thing he didn't like other than the price. After that I played a 2k LP. It was a great guitar, but the other did feel and sound better except for the sticky neck. Then I played a ES-335. Killer guitar. Was not a fan of how skinny it was up at the nut. My BB King was not like that.

So they are nice, but even if I loved it, I could not justify a guitar that costs about 6 of my house payments. 2 house payments if you live in California.

I wouldn't have guessed in a million years. But, yeah, good move!

They look good & they sound good in the Video Studio.. They’re a couple hundred bucks higher than a 65 PRRI & a 65 DRRI… I thought the Falcon 5 should be 12 Watts & have Tremolo for that price..

I thought they’d be a couple hundred less to get those Amps out there on Bands back lines!

The handwired Princeton and Deluxe are double the mexican-made price, so like $2400 and $2700.
In Europe, the USA handwired Deluxe is like €2900 at Thomann.

  7. The amps are here!
Falcon 5 and Falcon 20. They sound great, and the prices are exactly where they sould be.  Someone should post a video in a new thread. I will post it here...😎

I know opinions are like arseholes, but this gave me a smile and a tear. I think Ronnie would have dug it.

In the part just before the guitar solo, Dolly's and Ronny's voices interact in an incredible way. Goose bumps from a really old song done in a beautiful new way! 😄

(adopting sm@rt@ss mode) They hang the tuning machines on there 😉

    Intelligence update accepted! 😄
They want to make it look like a Gibson headstock, but there's a 3-screw trussrod cover, making it look like a fake.
Fender did this very elegantly with their brand Charvel, and the headstock is just as beatiful as the original.

The Kalamazoo plant was union. The Nashville and all plants after that I believe were non-union.

They probably closed Kalamazoo and relocated to Nasvhille in the 80s just for this reason!

Where are they made? Montana or Tennessee?

Looks like Nashville, despite all elements being similar to acoustic guitar production:

"Each newly made 1923 F-5 Master Model Reissue crafted by Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville, Tennessee, will come with a Certificate of Authenticity bearing a portrait of Lloyd Loar, the Master Luthier who worked for Gibson for only five years, but whose innovations in that time paved the way for so much that followed."

  12. Gibson has informed us, that they made two new MANDOLIN models. They look gorgeous and are premium instruments (including the prices 🧐), but I am not a mandolin player. Never had one in my hands. However, this development is interesting, because it looks like a "technical warmup" for the things that might be really interesting for guitarists, for example ES-175 and similar guitars.

Wow.. Holy crap. I cant believe its been over a year since I did an update on this.. Where does the time go..

Anyway.. I started doing some building again over the weekend. Some of you may remember that LP Custom Lite style I started. Well the body for that one has cupped a bit since I last did any work on it. So I decided to have at think on it and instead went wit this amazing spalted Plane...  And that body is totally flat still..  So here goes.

I got some good things out the way.. I did the truss rod channel and glued the fretboard on. Even though I didnt get any pics of it all glued up.

I saw this trick online for drilling the access hole. Just clamp a bit of wood over the hole (where the nut goes) and it stops you breaking through the top which is really easy to do as its only a mm or two thick there.

Ohh and the recess for the back plate

This really is gonna be one pretty guitar..  Also I think for this one I will use my Gibson Classic 57 and Seymour Duncan Phat Cat P90 for the neck..  So it should also sound pretty bloody good too.

Anyway thats all for now. One of the man reasons I stopped for a while was issues with my hands which come and go. And indeed on Sunday night my back and hands were pretty sore even though I didnt really do that much. So this will be slow going. They are back to normal(ish) now so  I will get on it again soon.

Beautiful close-ups, can almost smell the wood grain fibers!
