  1. I was a big fan of Deep Purple, but not of Whitesnake. Only recently I learned Jon Lord and Ian Paice were there... until Coverdale fired them, because one day they went to the horse races instead of coming in for practicing for their new album.

Bernie Marsden did play with Lord, Ashton and Paice in one album. Top-tier musicians.

I think I'm gonna watch R & R Circus today. I'm lazy and so far only watched Gimme Shelter.

I know everybody knows this song, but I'ma gonna post it here anyway. (Never heard this version before)

  3. I have a cheap Ibanez Artcore with very lousy pickups. It had a warped neck (new 🤡) and my great luthier put 011 strings on it, instead of stock 010s. The neck is now straight and has very low action. I could not do bends 2 years ago. But now the fingers have grown some muscles, and bending is not a problem anymore.

Like everyone else I occasionally look at the 5th Ave Godins (the ones without a Bigsby) and dream of a (new!) ES-175 with 57 Classics. The sound from these on some old recordings (Grant Green and other masters) is really something to be wished for.

There will come a day, when I can play SUNNY on an archtop. I mean, not like Pat Martino, but with decent speed & no errors! 😎

  4. The Firebird cannot be discontinued. That would be sheer Blasphemy. There's a certain quality in its sound, that even non-pros like me can appreciate. You can't simulate that with pedals.

Waiting anxiously for any Standard Firebird news...

  5. I have a 50s Standard LP with Burstbuckers1/2 and an ES-335 with T-Tops. Both were bought new. The LP sound is gorgeous and imposing at all frequencies. The ES is much brighter and after some 9 months has mellowed slighlty to get that same sound I hear on recordings of pros (Freddie King, for example). So both guitars have incredibly great sounds, but way different & similar at the same time.

  6. I think there's no need to panic! 🧐

Gibson just recently issued a new "collection" of Protector guitar cases. There's eleven on offer, for all guitar types being made now. One of them is for the Firebird, so there's a lot of reasoning to support the idea, that the Standard Firebird will be back in stock. Which is good news in these God-forsaken times.

    Here't the Firebird version:

  7. I lived in Tokyo for a few years. The people are very nice and civilized, but they cannot pronounce "L" in foreign language words, so they replace it with an "R". The same goes for the "R", which they replace with an "L". They are very strict and disciplined about it.😁

  8. I flipped the neck ring on my ES-335 after Googling a thread on this forum. Took me and my bro like 30 minutes. The springs are extremely long and it's no joke to squeeze them in easily. We did it in the second attempt.

The sound? When new, the ES-335/Satin Cherry was very brittle and trebly-harsh. Flipping the ring helped with adjusting the height, and reigned-in the sound "somewhat". But the real magic happened like 6 months later. The whole guitar seems to have settled down and "unstiffened". Now the sound is indescribably great. Literally "oozing" with maple.😁

It was. Until they changed it. I voiced my objection. It was ignored.

I think it's because they don't want to restrict new users from signing up with a too-tough policy. Forums thrive only when new users come and actively participate. Some kind of balance between "totally open" and restrictive for new users will be found sooner or later.

I learned a lot on this forum, great users and many with a lot of technical experience on guitars, amps, songwriting, woodworking, or just lounging  around... This is what makes a great online forum. Keep it flying! 👍
