  1. I think I've got a pretty good handle on it now thanks to everyone's help. I was diagnosed with Covid today so I'll have nothing but time for a few days.
  2. I agree, the tulip tuners look much better. I also swapped the Grover's on my J45 with white button tuners which look much better to me.
  3. No I bought the J-45 last year
  4. My lefty J-45 has a white label
  5. Ok. I was confused over Vintage/True Vintage differences. Did Gibson discontinue this Vintage series as well? With all the different versions it gets confusing. Honestly I really wasn't looking for a Hummingbird. I stumbled across this guitar and took a leap of faith. I assume the Vintage series cost more than the standard series? Thanks
  6. Thanks for the replies everyone. That makes sense. So I assume the top is torrified. I wasn't sure because it didn't mention that in the listing.
  7. Thanks for the reply. Now I'm confused even more. The guitar in the link has gold tuners and the one I bought does not and the listing stated spruce and not Adirondack. It says "Style Vintage" on the tag on the guitar but I'm not sure exactly what that means.
  8. No. It angles up on the treble side which is how it should be.
  9. Hey guys I bought a 2016 Hummingbird online today (Haven't received it yet) and I have a couple questions I was told this is a standard and I'm confused as to why this has Kluson tuners and other 2016 Hummingbirds I've seen have Grover tuners? It's advertised and vintage sunburst. Is it the same finish they use on the standards or is this a thinner finish? Is this just a standard with a sunburst finish? The specs on the internet vary so it's a little confusing Here's the link to the guitar https://www.gbase.com/gear/gibson-hummingbird-vintage-hummingbird-vintage-2016-sunburst-sunburst Thanks
  10. Thanks everyone for your kind comments
  11. When I bought my J-45 standard last year I also bought a 50's J-45 with the intention of returning the one I liked the least and I was curious to see if I liked the 50's better. I'm left handed so there's not a lot of options out there so going to a store to compare them was out out of the question. My experience with these two guitars was the standard blew the 50's out of the water which sounded anemic next to the standard so the 50's was sent back. The standard had that beautiful resonance that I've come to know and love about the J-45 and the 50's was just flat sounding. That doesn't mean the 50's is an inferior guitar, it just meant that between these two particular guitars there was a huge difference in sound. It could have easily gone the opposite way. On a side note: My standard came stock with a bone nut and saddle, I've talked to other lefties who said the same thing. My guess is that Gibson doesn't/didn't have left handed versions of the tusq nut and saddle so they went with bone.
  12. I've owned many acoustics through the years but at the end of the day my J-45 is always the one that feels like home. Why Worry
  13. Thanks guys. My thoughts too. Before I grabbed the J-45 I was playing the song on my Martin 000-15M and something was missing. I picked up the J-45 and bam there it was.
  14. I had this Donavon song rolling around in my brain the other day so I quickly learned it and decided to record it
  15. I also got rid of the Baggs pickup and got a K&K installed.
  16. The new J-45 nuts are black. I had a 2013 that had a white nut but my friend had a 2016 that had the black nut
  17. Yes I do think it's the light and the angle that the picture was taken. It doesn't look like that to the naked eye
  18. No it's the standard nut. I've never noticed it before except for this picture
  19. I know it's a non issue to some people but I've never liked the looks of the Rotomatic tuners on my J-45 so I decided to change them to these (Gotoh SXN510V-M5 Electric/Acoustic Guitar Premium Tuners IVORY 3x3 - NICKEL) I installed them yesterday and the install was a breeze. All I had to do is drill an extra hole for each peg but other than that they were drop and replace. I love the look and unless it's my imagination the guitar seems a little more balanced when I use a strap, not so weighty on the neck.
  20. KwlskyI found out my J-45 already had a bone nut. For whatever reasons the left handed J-45's have an uncompensated bone saddle, I assume this has to do with availability. KwlskyI I found out my J-45 already had a bone nut. For whatever reasons the left handed J-45's have uncompensated bone saddles, I assume this has to do with availability. Long story short my Tech did make a Tusq saddle but I kept the bone saddle installed in the guitar and I've been so busy I haven't had the time to compare. One of these days
  21. I'm picking up my J-45 from my tech today. He took out the Element pickup and replaced it with a K&K mini. On the advice of a friend who did the same thing minus the K&K I'm having him make a bone saddle so now I'll be able to compare between the Tusq and the bone and use the one I like better. I will report back
  22. I've always love Sean's tone. There's a couple videos of Chris Stapleton performing with his old Gibson acoustic (pretty sure it's an LG-2) and it sounds great. Dry as a desert
  23. My first recording with my new J-45. I don't play this song but it caught my ear and I just went with it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kn4f0EHzggc Can anyone tell me how to imbed the video into the post? Thanks
