  1. I have purchased the Epiphone Masterbilt Century DeLuxe Classic VS. The tuners are a little strange (Compared to what I am used to) When you release the tension, the tuners wobble around like the gears are not meshed tightly. Not knowing how they work, I tightened them but it is hard to get them working smoothly. Does anyone have any experience with adjusting this type of tuner? By the way, this guitar is built like a tank. The neck is a bit thick,(But comfortable) so if you have small hands it may be a problem. It comes with Cleartone Phosphor Bronze 12-53 which I didn't like, they were too "Zingy or Tinny" for my ear. I put on some DR Flats....No and then some D'Addario Acoustic Nickel/Bronze....NO and now some D'Addario Chromes 12-52..........YES!! A nice warm rounded, clear sound. When they wear out I have some Pyramids 12-52 (Pure Nickel Flats) which I think will be right between the Chromes and Nickel/Bronze. Stay Tuned. It is a nice guitar, worth checking out.
  2. Well here goes. I have had some experience with this. I have a 1971 Gibson Heritage with a Rosewood saddle. Not long after I got it new in 1972 a luthier said it would sound much better if he routed out the saddle and inserted a bone saddle. It really is nice. Still mellow with a laid back sound, but with some extra clarity. Now, I have tried the Graph Tech replacement and I didn't like the sound. I have now put in a ceramic saddle (I was lucky to fine 3) one for the Heritage, one for the Paul McCartney Texan and one for the Gibson J160. The sound is much better than the Graph Tech for sure, more full. It is a little bright, but very even across the board, and it is a nice sound. My wooden saddle has cracked so I am getting one made and a bone insert put in like the original. This way I can change back and forth as my daily ear requirements require :-)) Some say to get rid of the adjustable bridge and the guitar will sound better, more open. Maybe so, but I like the advantage of adjusting the action easily whenever I want. Also, guitars are built with all components in mind. You change something that is irreversable and you are stuck with it, and you may Not like it. I changed the tuners on an Epiphone EJ200, from the Heavy Metal (In weight) Gold Grovers to the Light Tuners (In weight) with Keystone buttons and it changed the sound of the guitar, not as much bottom end. I guess the weight difference on the headstock made the difference. I am rambling a bit, but I just wanted to state that any change, will change your sound.
  3. I would like to install an ABR bridge Assembly like on the 1964 Reissue J200 on my Epiphone EJ200. Yes, I know many people remove them because they say they are "Tone Killers" but I don't think so, it is a "Different" tone, like the difference between roundwound strings and flatwound strings. Anyway, I was wondering if it is possible (I cannot see why not) and if anyone knows where I could purchase the parts (Gold) Does anyone have one kicking around?? Thank you for your time, Bruce You could email me at misterbruce@shaw.ca if yo would prefer that.

  5. Does anyone know the values of the Tone/Volume Pots and the Capacitor in the J160E? Would they be different than the EJ160E? I have both and would like to rewire the EJ160E. They say that the EJ160E is a P100 and not a P90 as in a J160E. Everyone finds it hard to believe that there is 2 coils in this pickup. Would the values of the capacitor and pots be different? I have asked Gibson for the info 3 times with no response. What is with these guys? Thanks for your time, and I hope you can help. Sorry if I am in the wrong category here, but it is all I could find right now. Bruce
  6. Thank you very much for the info. My Tech says that it is definetley the paint job that is off centre, which I do agree on now that I looked closer for a few days. However, he said that moving the tailpiece may interfere with tuning, as the strings would be pulling/dragging on the edges of the saddles which may interfere with smooth tuning. I don't have any pictures yet, I am playing it too much. This is a Limited Edtion, does anyone know how many they are making? The John Lennon EJ-160E was also a Limited Edition, but they went on for years and years and just discontinued it in 2014. I have one of the original Korean Models.
  7. I just purchased a Sheraton Union Jack. The Frequensator Tailpiece looks Off Centre compared to the design on the top. Drives me CRAZY! Anyway, someone told me the design is not centered and the tailpiece is okay, I don't believe him, but I may be wrong. How can I measure to find out for sure? Also if the Tailpiece is centre but I want to move it over by maybe a 1/4" so that it looks straight with the design, will this be detrimental to the sound or playability of the guitar? Thanks for your help, Bruce
  8. I am expecting this guitar to arrive tomorrow from Houston Texas. It is the exact specs as Lennon's and is exclusive to Fuller's Vintage Guitar in Houston. I am wondering if anyone would know if Lennon or Harrison would have used flatwound strings on the J160e, or roundwounds? I would like to try and capture "That Sound" with this guitar. It will be Christmas in November for me! Thanks for your time, Bruce (Mr.)
  9. I just ordered a Custom Shop J160E and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what strings are good on a J160E. Did Lennon use flatwounds on his? Bronze or Nickel Wound? Guage? Thanks for your time Bruce
  10. Has anyone tried flatwounds on the "1965" Casino John Lennon? Did John/George/Paul use flatwounds on theirs?
