The Nick Lucas is short scale

    TY, Sweet.

Thoughts on 1.75.  From people's input, going from 1.73 to 1.75 dousn't sound like it should be that big of a deal, but going from the gibson to the guild it feels like a big jump.  I haven't measured the guild yet, but will bring my calipers when I go back north next week.  I wonder if the guild is actually bigger than 1.75...  it sure feels bigger than my 1.73 nut J45.

I miss my Amiga 4000. I understood it. It did what I wanted. It didn't have its own agenda or spy on me.

I wish I did something that would be worth someone wanting to spy on, but falling asleep in my chair before the ball game comes on is about as good as it gets here

  3. In this case - it's a skinny neck (1.59 to be precise) on my '67 SG.

In my past guitar life, I played guitars w/ 1.75 nut maybe larger, loved them - but for one reason or another evolved to playing a 1.73 nut on my J45 and 1.59 on my SG.  When I first started playing the skinnier necks I didn't like the feel, but have grown to it, feels very comfortable.  The whole reason for this thread is I was away last week and played my acoustic with the 1.75 nut, which reminded me how much I like the wider neck.

So here's the price of vanity...  I could go out and get a decent guitar (maybe $2500) guitar with a wider nut, and I'm sure it will be sweet - but it just wont have the cool factor of playing a '67 SG.  So until I can replace it with something of equal coolness (which is far north of $2500 I believe), the price of vanity is me playing a skinny neck.

    hmmmmm...

anyone else pick up a guitar based on it's look / cool factor vs how it ultimately feels?

I use Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Explorer and Opera and like to tryout other new browsers as they come along. I set all of the startup pages to Google and use Google search engines exclusively. I don't like Bing..

you just used more words than i care to know about.  I want to turn it on, I want it to work.

wish i could play like SRV too.

  5. Thanks for that ZW, looks to be about as close to a Gibby with the specs I was hoping for as you can get.  I do wish there was hi end acoustic rolling van that would make yearly stops in the different cities so we could get to try these things.

Thanks again all for the input, and hope all is healthy and well

  6. I wonder if my guild has a nut larger than 1.75.  It's still up at my folks, but I'll be back up there Monday and will have to measure then.  I did take the calipers to the J45 and it measures 1.73, and the guild definitely is bigger, but to Sals point is what I'm feeling just .02.

BK you may be right on the custom shop / specialty shop thing.  I thought there was a program you could spec what you wanted, but could be wrong.

Thank you all for the input, good food for thought.

Sounds like you're only .030" away from a Hummingbird. Square shoulder, mahogany, 24.75" scale, 1.72" nut.  You could get a natural like Twang just posted in his NGD.

A beautiful guitar it is (causes me a ting of envy), but my J45 is 1.72... and 1.72 is not 1.75.

Oh okay.   Your talking a 24 3/4 scale. That would  be  A good one to do.  I think all the Crows are 25 1/2 are they not? Im pretty sure that could be done.   But would it be worth the cost?

Lol - would it be worth the cost, absolutely not....  doesn't stop me from wanting it.  🙂  I was thinking the SC was 24 3/4, if not, I would have to ask the custom shop to adjust in that direction as well...

From a collector's standpoint, I would say get something already offered, from a player's perspective, I say that  sounds the bomb.

You may have to find a skinny neck 60s original SJ   I dont think Gibson is doing those. And I don't think there set up for that.

I have a 67. The only reason I can think of why they went the skinny neck route. Was for the strat players. I have a couple of the 60s Strats the nut , neck diameter is almost the same.

Thanks for the input, I think you misunderstood - I've already got the skinny neck route covered, trying to figure out the best way to a 1.75, but on a gibson short scale dread.

  10. So had to go to my folks for a little bit, and brought my guild with me (1.75 nut).   I had been playing my J45 (1.73 nut) and SG (1.59) and been getting used to (and really liking) playing the narrower neck and only been using the guild for some open tuning and slide work.  With only having the Guild at hand this past week, I put it back into standard tuning and remembered how much I like the 1.75 nut (but -ooooh, how I missed the sound of my Gibby)

So it got me thinking about what I want in a guitar, and I decided it's a square shoulder dread, short scale, with 1 3/4 nut, with the Gibson sound.  So that made me thinking of putting a Custom Shop order together (if possible), and ask for the Sheryl Crow CW but with the 1.75 nut.  Probably a different pick guard.

I believe the custom order is the only way to go, but does anyone know of any Gibson models that meet those specs?

  11. time and place definitely made an impression.  I was a big ACDC fan, but in my +50 yrs don't find myself wanting to put them on, but I have found myself trying to acoustify some of there stuff.  i could ramble on, but will leave it at that.  Well maybe a little more -   George Thouroghgood reminds me of good times back in the day, and I love riffing out to 'bad to the bone'.  But that's not the only stuff i listen to and try and do, but it is the stuff that makes me smile with memories, but there's lots of stuff i did not listen to then and love now,  ramble

The Arizona ranchers almost drove the desert Jaguar into extinction, they are protected now but most plentiful on the Mexican side of the border.

Not sure what a desert jaguar is but we have fisher cats here and they are pretty nasty

Strange happenings this morning.  Maybe the snake pictures and talk were an omen........Snakes don’t bother me much and I love reading about the big constrictors.  Once got to hold a 12-13ft. Reticulated Python at a zoo and was very impressed by how strong it was for being a young juvenile.  Definitely wouldn’t want to be near the big ones.....Anyway, this morning I found a copperhead in our backyard.  3-3 1/2 ft long.  Acted pretty healthy and wasn’t threatening.  We haven’t seen these near our neighborhood for the last twenty years, since our home edition was totally developed.   Anyway, I gently picked him up and put him in a burlap bag and drove him out to Lake Jacomo ( about five miles away) and released him out in he woods.    It crawled away and that was it.  Got me a cup of coffee on the way home and been playing guitar for the last hour or so. .....Haven’t told my wife about the snake.  I guarantee you that she doesn’t want to know.....lol.

just wow.  thats how i envision i would deal with it, but in reality - dont think it would have gone down like that.

Has the wiring been modified before? I would take a look inside the control cavity and figure out what’s connected to what. On the surface look for things like shorts and even possibly broken connections and such. But overall sounds electronic in nature. Could even quite possibly have a faulty component in the way. Only way to completely verify that sometimes is to completely disconnect parts from the circuit and use a multimeter to measure them out. Maybe your pot doesn’t go down to 0 ohms... again need multimeter.  Good luck

a layman's interpretation,,,  take the back off, look for anything obvious - then go to a trusted luthier who can debug the circuitry.  Wish I had the skills to do what NhC describes - but that's a bit beyond me.  At least you know it shouldn't be there, and it should be able to be fixed.

I agree, I'm really happy for her.  With Molly Dog dying and then she's got some sort of surgery coming up she needed a real boost.

The dealership called her up and said you've got 60,000 miles on your 2016 Crosstrek and you can trade it in on a 2021, no payment due until end of October.  Her payments went down and so did her insurance so good deal.

Her comment was you got your amplifiers, I'm going to go get my car!

I told her I'll show her all the guitars once I snag a Firebird VII.  Quite a few she's never seen.  No sense in asking for trouble although I do tell her she can sell them all after I croak.  She seems to like that idea.

That's something that makes me go Hmmmm....

Alright - your wife lets you get all those guitars and amps, which makes her the coolest wife ever...  but really, she let's you keep your snake and reptile farm going.  Now that's a whole new level!

SF - being witness to your recent tear down guitar acquisition heaven, I'd say she deserves the crosstek at a min.
