ACDC doing ACDC - good stuff!
Never thought much of Malcom back in the day, but I've learned a lot since - love Angus but Malcom's impressive in his own right. Brian is not Bon Scott - but he's pretty freakin' awesome.

Woke up late, worked, fed snakes, worked some more, watched football through my eyelids, got bit by the puppy who was roughhousing.
Been over a year since my heart attack so finally getting my bloodwork done tomorrow. I know they have me pumped full of too much thinner, still bleeding hours later from the dog bite. Conked the little guy out by giving him some turkey, that settled him down.
Wife is back from all gurlz weekend. She fainted in a restaurant so something is not good.
Good luck to you and your wife Steve, not a fun experience.

Over the last couple days i’ve been playing Mr. Bojangles a lot. It’s just an instrumental version I figured-out 2-3 years ago and with the passing of Jerry Jeff Walker it seems the right thing to do.
Sounds like an SJ200 type of song 🙂

What I was originally trying to get was a Les Paul Special but with a rosewood fretboard. For comparison, here's a Special on top of the Studio:
Even though the Studio seems like a shrimpy Firebird V it's quite a bit larger, and lighter, than the Les Paul Special.
I like them both but the Firebird is more comfortable.
The Studio's case is about 3" shorter and maybe 1 1/2" thinner than a Firebird V/VII/Explorer case so while it won't withstand a nuclear blast it might stop a .22 caliber bullet.
As for what I think of it, initially I was kind of underwhelmed. It's growing on me and the pick ups needed to come up a bit as it just sounded really distant and wimpy. I don't think the bridge pick up will ever have the sound that the carved top Les Pauls have. It must be the maple cap that gives it that snap (there's an ICONIC tag line for ya).
It's price point was roughly SG Special/LP Special/LP Studio and it has a lot of good points: it's more comfortable (to me) than the ones I just listed, it sounds pretty good, the neck is slim without being too puny, quite a bit of futzing around is getting the action where I like it, you don't have to shift it around when you play it like you do with its bigger brothers, so I think it's worth getting. To me it feels like an SG Special with a larger body. It's a very comfortable guitar to play seated and it's a very resonant guitar. Standing up there's no neck dive and it stays in tune REALLY well.
Compared to the Firebird V and VII it's not in the same league but it was priced accordingly. Cheap and cheerful, one of those.
A future ICONIC classic?
No.
Fun to play?
Yes.
Good review - thank you.
I got one more question, how do you think it would cut throught he mix in a band situation. Do you play in a band or have band like situations where you can judge how your different guitars cut through the mix.
Is this even I thing, or am I just over thinking it, I gotta figure it's a thing, but still feeling the burn from asking about nut size 🙂 (FYI - this is from a guy who probably will never play in a band (unless they're named the 'ol fuddy duddys or something similar), at least from an electric standpoint)

One other good one...

Well its a 'liberal' interpretation but I enjoyed it 🙃
LOL, liberal interpretation is all I can go for myself when doing a cover, I’m not good enough to go for exact replication.

Nice Zig - glad it worked out. What caused you do this now vs sometime in the past 13 yrs... did it just get progressively worse. And as said by all before, very cool Gibson stepped up.

I'm in Pennsylvania and that's my male Leopard Tortoise, Tromper. He'd be right at home in Southern California as he likes it warm and dry. Be more at home in Africa, though...
I got him in 1994 and he was just a little guy full of energy, he just never stopped going so I'd say early 30s. If all goes well he's probably got another 100 years left in him, maybe more?
They do look like an Explorer from that angle and no Fedner or V.
Instead, the replacement for the Les Paul Special that GC totally screwed up, a leftover 2018 Firebird Studio.
I'll do a review on in it in a day or so, I wasn't sure what to expect but it's NOT a stripped down Firebird V with P90s, a glued in neck. and much less woodworking. This is it's own model which feels different, hangs different and is smaller than a Firebird V. Even the case is smaller and lighter.
Right now it has that never been played feel to it SO back to work!
Ooooh - iconic!

Not sure how a 5 year old guitar could be without strings for 10 years. The guy said it was like a new guitar. In a few hours I will see. He said there are new med-light strings on it. This weedend will set it up how I want. Level the frets, if needed and put my gauge strings on and tweek the rod accordingly, and lower the action if need be.
Level the frets - i would hope a martin wouldn't need it, but if it did -that's something you'd do on your own?

Ah hell why not.
Here is a pic of my doo wop group playing on a cruise. The guy sitting down was having knee issues. He left the band shortly after this gig for health reasons. That's a Martin acoustic - I had to be the one man band for this gig.
Very cool - love me a little bit of doo wop. How come you didn't get a white jacket?

Yep.
16 hours ago, kidblast said:One time I changed my oil, and it ran fine,, something happened after the fact and the oil drain attachment snapped off.. I didn't realize it,, till I started the engine.
Woa Nelly!!! Lucky for me it was a real old Toro that my dad gave me which was on it's last legs anyway.. DOH!!!!!!!!!!!
I've got a few of those 'old' things from my father.... my lawn tractor which I also use for snow blowing is from my father and 45+yrs old. It started 2 weeks ago when I changed it's oil, but it wouldn't start his weekend. Time to figure this one out. It doesn't always work (hence the other snowblower - but when it does, it is the bomb). Being down to one iffy piece of equipment doesn't have me excited.
-
Holy moly - that thing is awesome! Congrats and hope it gets to you as supposed.

Changed the oil on my snowblower, getting ready for winter. Started it up, ran it for a couple minutes -engine seized and blew a couple big chunks of metal out the side. Oooof - working on plan B for snow removal this year.
-
That makes sense, takes a whole level of complexity out of the project. Again, good luck - looking forward to pictures as you progress.

Nice guitar, nice review MP, and a good little bit of playing - I wish you a many songs on that one!

I wish GC would do well what they set out to do... but they don't, so not surprised.
