cjsinla
1366425192[/url]' post='1364021']There ya go if it aint broke dont fix it. I remove the pickguard myself but you seem to have found your answer :) Yeah, I go for the more traditional look, no pun intended. So I left the pick guard on, put on a plain black truss rod cover, and gold top hat knobs.

It looks amazing man. I'm just starting my Les Paul collection, started with a 2012 Studio at Christmas, bought the Traditional in march, figure I'll have a LP Standard by summertime... any tips for me on that next purchase? rickslespaul
hi all, just joined the forum after getting my 2012 gibson les paul traditional (my first gibson) a couple of weeks ago and this is my first post. here it is, barely recognizable.. so far, i've done the following in sequence: -replaced the truss rod cover with a plain one -replaced the bridge, bridge posts, stop-tail and stop-tail studs with faber's nswkit -added pointed knob markers from allparts -replaced the knobs, pickguard, pickup rings and toggle knob with historic sets from the gibson store -replaced the pickup switch washer with a lighter one from allparts -replaced the bridge posts with faber's iNsert set -replaced the pickup covers for gibson's nickel ones -replaced the tuners with kluson sd90sln with allparts nickel ferrules Hey hey man...how are you makin out with your new Les Paul? So.... are you thinking of changing the pickups on the LP? Maybe EMG81/60's? Go active? If you don't I have a tidbit of useful information for you. If you're gonna keep your passive pickups, you should try using Ernie Ball Cobalt strings man... They are awesome for passive pickups...totally changes your sound. I have "converted" a few of my friend who were lifelong users of their brand of strings...but now, they're thanking me for the advice. Try them man, you won't regret it. I changed ALL my Guitars and ALL my basses to Ernie Ball Cobalts....

I changed ALL my Guitars and ALL my basses to Ernie Ball Cobalts.... hi there, the 57s that came with the trad sound great so i haven't thought about swapping them out just yet. some years back i did have (still do, btw) an epiphone in which i installed emg's 81 and 89 (or was it 85, i forget). didn't take to the tone then. should probably take it out of storage and check it out again.. thanks for the headsup on the cobalt strings. was using eb slinkys many years ago but have been using d'addarios for some time now. recently started using their balance tension set and they feel great. will definitely give the cobalts a try the next string change. rickslespaul
Yeah, I go for the more traditional look, no pun intended. So I left the pick guard on, put on a plain black truss rod cover, and gold top hat knobs. Well, I got good news and bad news.... bad news... I'm losing my LP Studio....Good news... It's being replaced with a LP 60' Tribute!!! The neck off the Studio was acting funny and sounding off, I brought it to my tech guy at Long & McQuade and he said it was warped!!! Soooo... being that I have a replacement Warranty, and that the studio I have is discontinued... Long & McQuade will replace it with a brand new 2013 Gibson Les Paul 60's Tribute!!!! Yay!!! That's a $400 jump in value for me!!! I can't wait to get it. The pickups are waaaayyyyy better on the 60's tribute than the studio and... the studio had a baked maple Fretboard and the 60's tribute has a rosewood. What a difference. I'm getting a better quality Les Paul!!! Yaayy for me!!!! It doesn't have a pickguard, but I ordered a custom job pickguard, awesome one too, I'll post pics when I get it. rickslespaul
Well right on man sounds like your a winner. 60s Tribute Is this it here? It has a slim taper 60s neck and good humbuckers and Grovers Got all the right stuff. Yup...that's the one, I took the ebony one and ordered a custom pickguard with it. I'll post pics when it comes in, it's gonna look sick man!!!

Enjoying the Les Paul Traditional? I got to say...I'm pretty impressed with this guitar, the tones and feel of it fits perfectly. I am really glad I bought this guitar, I'm currently waiting for a LP 60's tribute, I can't wait to get it. I ordered some custom pickguards, truss rod covers etc... all the plastic covers and templates. It has pentagram design on it and it looks sick man. The guitar is flat ebony and the plastic templates are glossy ebonty. It'll look great man. I'll post a photo when all is said and done. Hopefully my guitar arrives this coming week. I'm real anxious about it. I think I caught the Les Paul Fever cause I'm planning to buy a few more. Eventually, the Black Beauty. I love that one.... Zeke
Hi Zeke, haven't heard from you in awhile. So...how's the Les Paul? Sounds pretty good on a Marshall aye? You should post a pic of your equipment... Talk to you soon... I'm still here...dont come here every day, but by the looks of all these cool pics, maybe I'll should start. Man I absolutely love mine. I think I spend more time now with "it" than with "wife". I am learning a lot of old songs off of "you tube", LOL. Been about 2 months now and I'm just trying to get some lead riffs in my bag of tricks. Got a long way to go, but I am dedicated. So it looks like its a little tricky posting pics? But I will try. rickslespaul
Right on sounds like you got a plan goin. I always do to when I get a new one, little personal touches are always fun. HI Donny, long time no talk, I was just wondering how the lead singer bit is going...do you like it? How does it feel? Do you find your playing style is curved a little since taking over the vocals? Let me know.

rickslespaul
Well right on you got it finally. What do you think of it? How does it sound? How does it play? It plays awesome, it's got a "crisp" "crunchy" sound...those burstbusters live up to their names. and I love the rosewood Fretboard. I don't regret this one. I just got a marshall half stack (waiting for the bottom bin for a full stack), and I also got a BOSS gt-100, I plugged it in cranked it up hi-gain stack and blasted some Gun's n Roses for that les paul effect (slash), and it sounded awesome. It sounds almost as good as the traditional...almost!!!!... But I'm glad it finally came in. I'll be sleeping with it for the next few nights hahaha wife will be jealous a bit...
