Gibson Taylor
I love the looks of the new ES-390. However, I'm not so sure about the mini-humbuckers that it comes with. I get killer sound from the classic '57s on my CS-336. I don't know that I've ever sampled the mini-humbuckers, and have certainly not yet played an ES-390. Anyone have experience with any of the above and care to share?
bluezguy
You are trying to compare the Sun and the Moon, Mick and Gaga, Mazerratti and Yugo, tuna and gold fish, Joe Cocker and Pink, Martins and Stella etc etc etc
charlie brown
Mini's are Great! You just have to know how to utilize them, to their best advantage. Tonally (to me), they're like a cross, between P-90's, and Full Sized Humbuckers. Lots of clarity, and roundness, as with a P-90, but...with the "Creamy smoothness, too" of a Full Sized Humbucker. Other's opinions, may/will differ. CB
4Hayden
I've always liked classic '57s & P 90's. Just depends on what type of music your playing
Versatile
For moi, the quintessential guitar for mini-humbuckers is the Firebird... I did not think the ES 390 had mini-humbuckers... V PS...Yes it does have mini-humbuckers and is probably well worth a spin for it's unique configuration... Personal preference is the Firebird And for hollow and semi, the ES 330 and ES 335... Spoonful
I was also very interested in the 390 for a while. But this is a very different instrument from my 335 and my 356. I wasn't willing to commit until I could actually play one and that isn't likely to happen since no one around these parts has any in stock. Now, I've moved on and found something else to GAS over. charlie brown
Well, I won't say what the quintessential guitar is, for Mini-humbuckers... as we'll probably all have various opinions, on that. But, every time I play my AIUSA Epi Sheraton, with it's stock Gibson Mini's...it just sounds like "Heaven!" Through "tube/valve" amps, mostly...but, even through my 2 Solid State amps, it sounds great, as well. All the "warmth" of a Semi- hollowbody, with a bit more definition, than full size "Buckers" tend to have...especially in the neck postion. Good Stuff!!
