D'Addario NS Micro Tuner

Hello Music had these for 12 bucks a couple weeks ago...with a coupon I was able to get 2 of them for $20 even.

I have to say I'm impressed. My biggest concern was accuracy...clipped it onto my SJ and tuned up. Definitely more than acceptable, pretty much right on. I haven't played around with it a whole lot, but you can adjust the calibration from 410 to 480 Hz, and it has a metronome with tempo settings from 20 to 270 bpm. The clip is adjustable and it's so small it fits in many different places of the headstock. You can adjust the readout for any position including vertically if you have the tuner at a weird angle.

I knew the tuner would be small, but this thing is tiny. My first thought was "I'm going to lose this". You really can clip it on and not really see it from the front of the guitar. The black plastic clip is maybe an inch in length and less than a half inch wide.

The only problem is I ordered two and only received one. This is my first dealing with Hello Music, so we'll see how this works out. MF sells them for $19.95 and it would be worth it at that price. At $10.00 each it was a definite score.

I bought one just to try. It doesn't clamp on to the headstock securely at all. It isn't chromatic. The battery died after the first use (about five minutes). The battery was the one that came with it and it could have just been stale, but sheesh!

Drathbun - don from D'Addario/Planet Waves here. The tuner is Chromatic. Our apologies about the battery dying. Shoot me an email and we'll make this right for you - my email is don.dawson2@daddario.com

That's very cool off you.

I just wanted to add to the thread that I got one when I bought my j45 , 2 years ago come November, and it still works as good as the day I got it. Had no problem with clamping it to the headstock , maybe not just as handy to remove and put on as a regular spring loaded tuner but I guess thats a sacrifice for the tiny size of the tuner. I keep mine on the guitar at all times anyway. Superb tuners .

Very cool.

Hello Music responded promptly to my e-mail and indicated they are sending out my second tuner right away.

I used mine off and on all weekend and it's still great, IMHO. I'll be using it in a jam and a gig later this week, looking forward to putting it to work in those situations.

Hi Don,

I just responded to your private message, thanks so much for your follow up. It speaks volumes to D'Addario's customer service.

I thought I'd say publicly here that I've told you that I will revisit the proper use of the tuner and that I re-seated the battery and the device powers up fine now.

Ok. I came home from work and put the tuner on my Gibson J200. I was afraid to clamp it hard on the guitar before because it didn't look to me that there was any soft protection on the tuner part of the device. Upon closer inspection, the little ring on the tuner is a very thin piece of soft foam. So I clamped the tuner on to the J200 firmly. It must have been the drop to the floor when it fell off my headstock that jarred it enough to make the battery have a bad connection. Now that I've taken the battery out and put it back, display is full bright. After reading the FAQs on the D'Addario website, I discovered it is indeed chromatic but only displays # notes which is totally fine now that I know what to look for.

So I fully retract my reservations about this little tuner now that I have it on securely and know how to use it (RTGDM).

I do have a question for D'Addario however. I looked at the model on the website:

and it looks nothing like my Planetwaves NS Tuner:

I just bought mine last week. Do I have old stock or a different model?

I received my second one from Hello Music Tuesday night and immediately took off to play at a small gig. Worked great.

The two I have are identical to the D'Addario tuner pictured above, not the Planet Waves you have on your guitar, drathbun. It looks similar, though.

D - you have the NS Mini - the Micro has a circle of buttons and the battery is located on the back as opposed to the bottom of the housing.
