Bluesidae
Just found a used epiphone 59 Les Paul. Looks very similar to the Tribute. Different pickups (burst buckets vs 57) and no coil splitting. Thoughts?
Whitmore Willy
How I liked the appearance, the way it plays, (age of guitar/fret ware) and how much the asking price would be my first thoughts. Tell us more. Willy
Scott0
2 very very nice guitars imo. i like both types of pickups, the 57s and the burstbuckers. something to consider in addition to the play, condition & price differences (assuming they are both used), is the neck shape. the 59 has the fatter 50s neck while the tribute has the slim 60s neck. Bluesidae
Haven't played it yet. I was leaning toward the Tribute Plus. Fella wants $800. I am guessing it would be worth $500.
Bluesidae
Good point about the neck. I like the neck on the Tribute +. I have the BB Lucille. Neck seems big to me. Would the 59 be similar?
Scott0
Good point about the neck. I like the neck on the Tribute +. I have the BB Lucille. Neck seems big to me. Would the 59 be similar? i'm not familiar with the neck on that lucille, i wish i were though! $800 seems a bit steep for the 59, but it is a true limited edition epi. i've seen the slash lp sell for ~$700, so i'm with you mostly on the price, if it's mint with all the case candy, etc, i would not want to pay more than $600-$650. so you'd be paying prolly close to ~40%-50% more to get the 59, if the owner will even deal on price. figuring you can get a tribute + new for $515 and there a used one currently on ebay at $375, it will go for more though. figure ~$425 if there's no feeding frenzy at the end. Scott0
the Tribute+ actually is 600 new a quick phone call is all it took for me to get my new tribute for $511.
Bluesidae
59 was worth $900 new? Is there a reason for this? Is that because so few (1959) were produced? I can't really consider it a collectible... Maybe there is some value in that.
Bluesidae
Gone before I had a chance to see it! Back to lusting for the Les Paul Tribute Plus

Bluesidae
No. It went quick so he must have got something close to his asking price. Good for him!

Good for him! yup, i agree. too bad there's no rhyme or reason with epi limited editions. at least it seems that way with my limited experience with them. heck i watched an epi pelham blue es-355 lmtd ed sell for over list recently on ebay- over $707! it wasn't used per se, but it was sold to a person who then sold it @ ebay. heck, you can still buy those at retailers for $600-ish (gotta call though, street price is $700 ;-). and they are not really limited editions, epi will crank out as many as they can sell within the time frame alloted. are you lookin gon ebay for a tribute plus? the one i mentioned above looks pretty good, it's black cherry. Scott0
maybe we can get an idea of current value on the 59 reissues watching this one that just popped up on the ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gibson-epiphone-les-paul-1959-reissue-w-ohsc/141160791851?_trksid=p2050601.m2372&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D207%26meid%3D3984905713568097951%26pid%3D100085%26prg%3D1112%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D231113548587%26%26clkid%3D3984931404525857812&_qi=RTM1562570

Scott0
Thanks for posting this... I could have had one for $800 or less :( Ouch! I'm going otr- the seller won't get a single bid on it starting at that price. It's way too high.
