wiggy
Good day all Anyone have GFS p90 do gear pickups on hollowbody? Thoughts, likes. Dislikes.... Please comment...... Are you looking to compare GFS Dog Ear P90's to Epi Dog Ear P90's? Reason I ask is that there is obviously going to a much less pronounced difference than if you were to compare say an Epi H/B with a P90 in a semi or hollow body (or a solid body for that matter)
flyingfrets
I have one in an Epi '61 SG Junior. It's not bad (better than the stock P90), but it doesn't sing like a Duncan or Lollar. Also, keep in mind, if you're using a pair of them (neck & bridge), one will be reverse-wound so they're hum-cancelling with both pickups on. Some folks don't mind (I just redid an Epi LP with P90s my tech & I wound. We deliberately wound them the same way, but it is a slightly different sound character than real vintage style P90s). Not a put-down, just something to be aware of. You also might look at the Slick P90 on the GFS site. They claim to be more vintage proper, but I don't have any first hand knowlege. Just another option in that price range.
newlife15
I have a Riviera p93 with the 3 pickup configuration. Middle pickup is reverse polarity I believe. ..Not really sure....just wanted better sounding pickups without breaking the bank..The Epi's sound muddy to my untrained ears :-)
tweed2
I've tried 7 or 8 different brands of P-90s, over the last few years, and found that Heywood makes a great low-to-medium priced one. GFS is one brand I have not tried, so I can't compare them. Kent Armstrong also makes some good value-oriented pickups. Watch eBay, I got a set of used, black Lollar dogears for $99 a couple of months ago. They totally changed my Casino.
