My Music Years 60's/ 70's

I started off with a harp player doing folk and blues. We actually had one gig at a local Folk Music Society. Sometime in late 1964 we added a bass and drummer but all we knew how to do was the same stuff we had been doing. We were now just plugging in to play it. The folkies wanted nothing to do with us while the rockers thought we were still too folky.

That's one of my "go to" tunes. I heard it first by Doc Watson and play it sort of like he did, not the Paxton version I finally heard later.

My favorite version of Last Thing On My Mind is on an album called "Earl Scruggs - His Family & Friends," recorded live & literally in the field. Doc Watson plays (with Merle) & sings an up-tempo version of his familiar take on the song, with Earl providing some harmony vocals. Also a killer version of Salty Dog Blues with the Morris Brothers, Love Is Just A Four Letter Word with Joan Baez, and more. The album was released in 1971 - loved it then & now.
