Motherofpearl
Here's the top of a 1953 J200 does anyone know what these stamps are for? Maybe artist number or something?
j45nick
I've never seen that one. It bears no relation to a serial number or FON from 1953. Maybe an owner's or dealer's inventory identification number or something similar?
J-1854Me
A similar question was recently posted over at UMGF in the Vintage Corner, right here. It generated quite a bit of interesting discussion. You might glean some insight there. Myself, I would only think of it as somebody's "personal ID" system. I have a '53 SJ from Alberta that someone scratched an id # onto, probably his license or something. The one you show is nice and neatly done with a tool die, so suggests a store's stock number. Not too many J-200s would have been teaching instruments...! Fred

Pittgibson45
Maybe it was a rental or owned by a studio or record company????? I can't imagine it would be done by a store or anyone that thaught they would ever sell it.
