kent04 Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 1988 Blonde Gibson L4CES bought this beauty for 1,700 bucks, she sounds great, but i've never liked the factory pallet Gibson used for the blonde L4CES. The headstock had serious clear coat issues, no pickguard and ugly grover imperials ive scraped the clearcoat, resanded the headstock and will be applying new nitro tonight. bought gold grover deluxes and put new black screws in the pickguard mounts (beauty mark). i really like the idea of turning her into a black and gold yellow jacket which knobs would be best? im leaning toward the gold tops
capmaster Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 ... which knobs would be best? im leaning toward the gold tops ... Me too.
L5Larry Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 ... im leaning toward the gold tops Yep, that would be my choice. Reflector tops with the gold insert is what I put on my L-5 (although gold on gold). The reflector tops have always been my favorite Gibson knob, not only for form, but also for function (feel). As my first two Gibsons "back in the day" had them, it's also what I'm used to reaching for.
L5Larry Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 ... and ugly grover imperials BTW, what are you going to do with those "ugly" Imperials. You know, beauty IS in the eye of the beholder!
kent04 Posted January 8, 2016 Author Posted January 8, 2016 BTW, what are you going to do with those "ugly" Imperials. You know, beauty IS in the eye of the beholder! Happy to sell them, I can send you a picture tonight Make me an offer I'll pay shipping because of the "ugly" remark
kent04 Posted January 9, 2016 Author Posted January 9, 2016 That a Maple top on it? Solid spruce top Mahogany back and sides Sounds like a nice furniture store with the tone knob rolled down
