Epiphone Casino JHS???

Juxtapolice

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I came across this epiphone casino and may be purchasing it but there are a few things I don't understand about the guitar. I have tried to research as much as I could yet there are still a few cracks, so perhaps someone here can shed some light. The current owner says this is a 1980 Epiphone casino-jhs-n that was made for the Japanese market only and claims it was bought abroad. It has a set neck and seems to match up in a few ways with the description of the matsumoku era guitars with a few things I can't pin, the label that read JHS-N and the two screw truss Rod cover. The owner claims this was a prized model/version, any thoughts? Thanks!

The body shape is consistent with the Matsumoku Casinos --- and slightly different from the later Peerless-built ones.

The Matsumoku built Epiphones of that era (as opposed to the 70's ones which were crap) are indeed highly regarded, and are close to Elitist quality.

JHS Casinos have popped up on the forum from time-to-time. The consensus has always been that these are indeed Matsumoku-made (the body proportions are a give away), and were originaly for the Japanese market only (which the blue label signified at that time).

The JHS is a head-scratcher, but Japanese Historic Series has been thrown about as a sensible meaning. Most Matsumoku-made Casinos had three-piece maple necks. The mahogany neck in the one pictured is what makes it historic, I guess.

N, of course, means Natural.

Lovely looking Casino, how much did you pay for it if you dont mind me asking?

890USD I'm sure these have gone up over the years but when I picked her up I had to buy, felt just as good and had as much personality as any 60s Gibson or epiphone and the P90s are really something. Very happy with the guitar, kind of a random find
