jedzep Posted August 22, 2016 Posted August 22, 2016 Couldn't find a clip of Buddy playing his beautiful L5, but 52 years ago my father gave me a big ol' Orpheum archtop and sent me next door for my first lesson. Amidst all the Fenders, pedal steels, and reel to reels, I sat down and stared blankly at the 'Mel Bay Method' book. Well, I shoulda' learned more but at least I got a kick in the right direction, before he shipped back to Welk after two years in the Army Band at West Point. He also played in my dad's quartet. Watching them practice in my basement was one of the highlights of my dopey early teen years, and sealed my desire to play guitar. Thought you old timers would get a chuckle seeing this clip, which is from a few years before I ever met him. He quit playing years ago when he saw the advanced skills younger studio players demonstrated. Thanks to Kaiser Bill for the cool pic of him with Buddy at a gig.
MissouriPicker Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 I remember seeing this guy on TV years ago. Good clip of a very talented guy.)
