Inexpensive banjo - fret work

Recommended Posts

Hi all - i'm a long time guitar player, and a friend just gave me a non gibby (inexpensive) banjo. I never played one before - so just noodling on this to figure out if I like it.

My question is I notice the corners of the frets seem a little sharp. I was going to polish them down a bit, but thought I'd ask for input from the folks in the know if this was a huge no no - or any suggestions or other things to beware of while doing something like this in the banjo world?

Thanks for any input... rgds br

With the right file, and some patience, you can easily knock those sharp fret edges down.

Try an emery board or small nail file if you don't have any files in your tool box, test it out on one or two frets to see how it feels.

Just go slowly, and when it feels smooth enough, move on to the next.

Godo luck

I had a Uke given to me as a b-day pres last year. Nice uke, but the fret ends were deadly. A small file in my tool box did the deed easily.
