I notice that some post their serial number or pictures of it without hesitation while others obfuscate it so no one can see what it is. My question is: What is the danger in posting your serial number? Is there a time it is OK to do so, say a newer guitar, and a time that you wouldn't want to, say with a vintage model, or does it really matter? Thanks for any thoughts! NeoConMan Posted March 6, 2009 Share Posted March 6, 2009 Yeah, it's a counterfeit defense and a theft/fraud thing. I personally don't post entire serial numbers unless I'm selling a guitar on Ebay.
