ibis
Can you kindly explain what chambered bodies are? I see from the Gibson website that LP Stds are now 'weight relieved'. Does this apply to all or some of the Historics too? If so when did this start? I'm fairly certain my 2005 R7 Gold Top LP is non-weight relieved'. Is this so? Thank you, ibis
Custom Admin
they are just what they sound like: bodies with chambers that provide weight relief. no Historic LPs are chambered...
LPCollector
no Historic LPs are chambered... Unless' date=' the serial number starts with CR------. (Which stands for Chambered Reissue) Then the historic is a chambered body. These are also known (unofficially) as the Cloud 9 series. ibis
Wow that's pretty graphic! I now realise that weight relieved means the 'swiss cheese' drilling thats been used since the early 80's and chambered is the modern equivalent. Who'd have thought? ibis
I see that Jol Dantzig is now making Hamer Studio Customs with chambered bodies as standard. Can't be because of weight relief because the solid ones weigh very little; its because he prefers the tone. He states in his workshop blog that solids are still available to order because of traditional preferences. Can anyone describe the tonal difference chambering makes? Anyone got a Cloud9 and a regular Historic?
