Hi guys,

Im new to the group and just purchased a j-45 studio rosewood. I love the guitar but i just noticed the guitar was built without verticle sidewall bracing. I was alittle taken back by this. Are all current versions of the j-45 made this way? If so, i never noticed.

First welcome and congrats on the Gibson.

Gibson stopped using wood or stiffened fabric side supports in the early-1950s.  The only exceptions I can think of were the J200 and CF-100 which continued to have that feature through the decade and in the case of the J200 into the 1960s if not longer.

My 1920 L3 and my wife's 1960 J200 have wood supports.  My 1932 L1 and 1942 J50 have fabric side supports which I assume is linen.  The 1946 LG2 I used to own also had fabric supports  although unlike the others it was a blue color.
