Romans5
Hey everyone, I’m new here and joined to help a friend who just received some old guitars from her grandfather’s estate. One of the looks to be an older Hummingbird, but she can’t find a serial number. I have not seen the guitar yet in person, but I have some photos I’ll try to past to see if any of you folks can help. It would be much appreciated, thanks.
Romans5
I have a couple more photos, but file size is too big to post. I’ll try to figure that out soon. Thanks for your patience.
DanvillRob
I wanna wait to see the experts weigh in here on this!
groovadelic
Looks like an Norlin early 70s Hummingbird. The pickguard is right, non-reverse belly bridge, and 70s headstock. The truss rod cover also looks 70s. Trapezoid inlays means it's early as opposed to mid/late 70s.
Romans5
Thanks! I can’t wait to hear how it sounds. I’ve heard not-too-great reviews of 70’s Gibson acoustics, but ya never know till you play it. Is there anywhere I should tell her to check for a serial number? Or did they just not put them on during some productions years.

E-minor7
My take = 1969 to 72. No serial #, , , but a Made in U.S.A. ??
Romans5
Just a smudge where a sticker used to be in the back of the headstock. No serial number or “made in the USA”.
j45nick
Between 1975 and 1977, the serial number and model were apparently on decals on the back of the headstock. Not sure why anyone thought that was a good idea.
slimt
You wouldnt happen to have a picture of the heel? also is it double X braced on the inside of the top? some of the mid 70s Birds had small block inlays on the board.
Romans5
Hopefully I’ll get a chance to swing by this friends house and see it in person soon. I think this must be one of the years that had the serial number on a decal on the back of the headstock.
