Fret Doctor

I specifically asked Ed Boyle from Fret Doctor about Ebony boards. Many believe that Ebony is naturally oily wood and doesn't need to be treated. But according to Ed, Ebony is the most prone to dessication and cracking. So much so that woodwind makers now generally use Grenadilla instead. He told me that Ebony will suck up Fret Doctor like a sponge. It did on mine when I put it on! If it lingers for more than half an hour or so, then just wipe it off.

I've exchanged a cupla emails with the inventor of the stuff...

Put it this way, if it works on woodwinds - and it is the same stuff as "bore doctor" for those instruments - it's certainly quite safe for fingerboards except that it's less expensive in the bigger bottles for "us."

He even has me talked into getting my Mom to dig out my great grandfather's Civil War fife and treat it. At least, as long as I send him a pix. He's into fifes big time.

This site has been mentioned before, but notice "Fret Doctor" is a secondary thing for a fife guy. <grin>
