brianRcarrigan
Hey everyone! I recently purchased a Gibson Explorer online and when it arrived I noticed it had two cracks on either side where the neck meets the body. The guitar sounds and plays fine. Can anyone tell if these are in the finish only or if the wood has actually been cracked? ....just wanting an outside opinion.
cwness
That's not good. Better take it to a good tech to have it checked out. CW
Riffster
Yikes, sorry man that looks like an impact crack. I looks like it may have been stored in the case leaving that strap lock on and that may have created the crack.
Izzy
From plain view it seems like finish damage, but then again the fact that there are two...i say take it to a friend that is a pro or a guitar junkie for a look and then to a shop to see if they both tell you the same. I suggest friend first so you don't pay for a repair that is only a finish job.
doublecutjr
Based on the pic, I agree CW, it does not look good. Any buzzes if you tap the back of the neck and put your ear close to the neck? That's a fairly simple way to tell. True....... the strap lock may have put pressure on it in the case. Can you return it to the seller? What about emailing them and plainly asking? hard to tell if you;d get an honest answer but nothing to lose. OUCH!!!!!
brianRcarrigan
Thanks for responses everyone! Yeah, the seller already said he would give me a full refund. I was thinking about living with it if was just the finish but I too thought it looked like an impact crack. Oh well, there are plenty of other Explorers out there. badbluesplayer
Looks like that ax took a dive sometime in the past. Looks like a structural issue.
