The Great Spring Flood of 2010

What a mess. The whole state of Rhode Island has been declared a disaster area by the Obamanation. Several dams in the area were in danger of collapse (one or two still are), bridges on major roadways compromised, roads impassable, homes and businesses lost. We were "lucky" in that we're not near any major rivers, or even brooks because of the rain. There is a usually dry swamp behind the complex that's about 5 feet deep right now. People evacuated from their homes, whole communities lost to the water. What a mess. I've never seen anything like it. Worst flooding in over 100 years.

Sorry to hear that... My Mum's in Boston where they got it pretty bad too. Luckily her house is high up but her basement tends to flood. Thank goodness she has a capped sewer pipe drain that goes out to the street... When the basement starts to get water someone can just take the cap off and all the water drains out....

Yeah, flooding is especially nasty because of potential yechies the waters bring into everyday life, homes, businesses and just plain trying to do anything.

When we had one here the big deal was to keep the kids out of the streams because of bits of floating green mud; the other nasty stuff isn't so obvious.

May all be safe...
