Madness
What are the main differences of the "'57 Classic humbuckers" and the 490 and 498 ones found on the more modern versions. Which are best for heavy and not to muddy distortion?
Ouijayes
well, the 490 & 498 pickups has more output signal and modern/crystal tone and sure fit best for heavy/metal style, '57 has more classic tone and fit best for blues/classic AC/DC rock imho. :> so the answer is 490
AS90
The '57s are nice though.

Madness
is high output = higher volume / louder? Also, i guess then the 57s would be more muddy at cranked distortion? Wouldnt be surprised since after all, '57 wasnt the era of heavy distortion.
Ouijayes
well yes,has more vintage sound and so imho is more muddy if cranked than 490/498, high output = easy way to overdrive amp valves , yes output signal or volume is louder so preamp/valves gets easly overdriven

That would be the 498t in the bridge position of a Standard. So it stands to reason that the AY pickup, and the 498t pickup have very similar output. They might even be the same pickup.
